#CheetahIsBack

Cheetahs (3♂️, 5♀️) are coming to India (Kuno Palpur National Park, MP) from Namibia within a few days.

They will be released into quarantine Enclosure by the Hon'ble PM @NarendraModi on 17th September.

It's a thread on some interesting facts about #Cheetah.
1/n

Cheetah is the world's fastest land animal. It shows astonishing speed & acceleration ... 0 to 100km/hr in 3 seconds.

Biological Adaptations behind such speed:
* Flexible spine, which enables elongated strides (upto 20ft)
* Light weight (avg adult males weigh 40-60kg)
* Aerodynamic body (small head, slender legs): minimises air resistance
* Enlarged nostrils, heart & lungs: supply large amount of oxygenated blood
* Semi-retractable claws: Unlike other Big Cats, Cheetah claws don't retract fully, giving them better grip & traction while running
* Hard & Elongated Pads improve shock absorption & provide more traction
* Long muscular tail acts like a rudder allowing Cheetah to quickly change its direction while running. It provides counterbalance for sharp turns during a chase.

They make Cheetah nature's perfect sprinter
2/n

Unlike most big cats, Cheetah can't Roar.

Cheetah vocalisations:
* Chirp (bird-like call): Cheetah chirp when excited after a kill or to locate cubs/mother

* Purr (call ~domestic cats, but louder): produced when Cheetahs r content or licking others
3/n

Unlike other big cats which are primarily nocturnal, Cheetah are diurnal (they are active mainly during the day).

Reason behind this behavioural adaptation: Other big cats (Leopard, Lion) can predate upon or compete with Cheetah in night. Daytime activity can avoid it.
4/n

Cheetah fur/coat is mostly covered with evenly spaced, oval or round solid black Spots. It provides camouflage to Cheetah in grassland.

Each Cheetah has a distinct pattern of spots, which can be used to identify unique individuals.

Leopard fur has polygonal Rosettes.
5/n

#Cheetah has black tear-line marks, running from the corners of the eyes downwards.

These markings help in reflecting the bright glare of the sun while hunting in open plains. By minimizing glare, Cheetah can remain focused on moving prey during the high-speed chase.

Infrequent watering is amongst the primary reasons for slow growth or mortality of plants.

Irrigation decision needs monitoring soil-moisture on a regular basis. But, it's tedious, particularly in remote plantations.

To resolve the issue, Rewa Forest Dept has installed...

1/n Image
"IoT Sensor-based Smart Monitoring system for Plantations"

On pilot basis, it has been installed at 2 social-forestry sites in Rewa Forest Division:

1. बसामन मामा गौशाला Block Plantation
2. GEC Rewa Nagar Van

It give real-time information regarding soil-moisture on cloud, which can be accessed anywhere anytime.

Based upon the info or alerts, instructions are issued to perform the irrigation/watering.

It's solar-powered, so no external energy source is required.

#UPSCPrelimResult2023

It's a thread for those who couldn't clear #Prelims even after ≥2nd GOOD attempt.

-----------

"लगातार कोशिश करते रहो, सफलता जरूर मिलेगी"

Such lines sound good in Motivational videos, but may be disastrous for the life of many #UPSC aspirants.

(1/n) Image
I know a lot of "erstwhile" aspirants who invested their entire youth (20s & early 30s) in #UPSC preparation, but were left empty-handed after exhausting their age/attempts. Thus, destroying their potentials.

So, realising when to quit this exam is extremely critical.

(2/n)
3 thoughts which prevent aspirants from taking such decision:

💭1. Gambler's Fallacy: "I've invested time & energy for this exam, & have accumulated so much Knowledge. It will all get wasted if I quit. I cannot fail everytime. Better to try once more, probably i will succeed." Image

"Human-Wildlife Conflict" refers to negative interaction between humans & wild animals, leading to adverse impacts: crop loss, livestock kill, property damage, human injury/death on one hand, & retaliation against wildlife on the other hand.

Human-Wildlife Conflicts (HWC) are becoming more frequent, serious and widespread due to expansion of human populations, development aspirations, climate change and Habitat loss & fragmentation.

2/n
HWC Management strategies:

* Prevention: Wildlife Movement Tracking (by Patrolling teams, Drones, Camera Traps, Sensors) & Warning Systems, Community Awareness & Training

* Mitigation: timely & adequate Compensation, Capturing & Translocation of wild animal, Culling, etc

In past few months, I tried to share #UPSCPrelims Tricks/Tips with aspirants. Initially, I had planned to cover last 5-6 yrs' >100Qs where we can get answer with Logic. But due to work load, I couldn't get time for it.

2021 is mostly coverd. Sharing the remaining Qs of 2020 now.
43. Logical Tricks for #UPSCPrelims 🧠

From Economy section, sometimes Questions ask about some trend over a period of time.

If time period is large (like 10yr), the statement claiming "steadily/consistently increased or decreased" has high probability of being ❌.

Economy has a lot of interrelations & interconnections.

In Economy Questions asking about the Reasons, Factors, Causes, Impacts, Effects etc, keep your mind open and think of different logical possibilities.

Strategy for #UPSCPrelims CSAT

1/n

# Solve past Q papers 2011-2021:

* Start from latest (2021), move back
* 1 paper/day
* 3hr alarm; can give 15-20 min extra for initial 3-4 papers
* Give avg 2-3 minutes/Q; Max 3-4 minutes/Q (use Stopwatch)
* Check Ans from Official Key
2/n

# Analyse PYQs (particularly Maths/Quant/DI & Logical Reasoning):

For Questions you couldn't answer (within 3-4 min) or answered wrong: Check the Solution (from Solved Papers), Understand it, Memorize its methodology.

Repeat this process for every paper (2021-2011).
3/n

# Categorise #CSAT areas:

Ultimately you will know broadly 2 areas of Questions:
(1) Manageable/Strong: which you usually solve in <3min, with decent accuracy
(2) Unmanageable/Weak: unsolvable for you, or, taking >3min, or, poor accuracy
