A common theme this year is extremist takeover of local GOP organizations. Last week it was Sarasota Fl, which elected Michael Flynn & Proud Boy James Hoel. The Daily Beast article left 1 thing out: Hoel is #SecretSquirrel, wanted by the MPD for Jan 6. 1/

On Jan 6, Hoel marched to the Capitol with the main group of over 200 Proud Boys, sticking close to his now-arrested FL buddies Dan Scott (#MilkshakePB) and Christopher Worrell (#SgtPepperSprayer), and confronted officers on the W. Plaza. (Annotation by @CassanderGrant.) 2/ Image
Here's James Hoel aka #SecretSquirrel staging with his buddies a group of Proud Boys in front of the NW Scaffolds just before they were violently breached. Dan Scott was up front attacking police; Hoel and Worrell ducked out. 3/
Hoel and Scott then helped escort Proud Boy leader Charles Donohoe aka #YutYutPB away from the action, in a 'stack' of Florida Proud Boys. Worrell walked around to the Eest side to meet up with a contact man, carrying a radio with long antenna. 4/
The depth of these networks show why full prosecution of Jan 6 is urgently needed. James Hoel has been politically active in FL ever since - and in Aug this year helped flip the Sarasota County School Board to be dominated by extremist conspiracists. 5/

The last few years have seen attempted or successful extremist GOP takeovers in many places, including NV, SC, FL, and WY, many with Proud Boys directly involved. But there's now precedent to bar Capitol attackers like Hoel from office, for insurrection 6/
James Hoel aka #SecretSquirrel wore tactical gear in DC on Jan 6 but his Proud Boys colors on Dec. 12. DC, when Proud Boys tore a BLM flag off a church and burned it. (This is a different flag, but also paraded through the streets before the burning). 7/
Florida voters need to ask - is this who you want controlling your schools and politics? The rest of us need to ask: how long before this movement comes to our state too? 8/

The Capitol Police officer charged with obstruction for Jan 6, Michael Riley, has a hearing in DC today, repped by Trump's attorney Evan Corcoran (h/t @JordanOnRecord). Riley's charge is just telling a FB contact to delete photos - but Riley also first reported the pipe bomb. 1/
The pipe bomb connection is very strange: Riley's own attorneys put it into the record in June, asking for video footage that would show his actions during that time. Corcoran signed the letter, along with 2 other high-powered lawyers, ex-AUSAs. 2/

Riley hired the fancy attorneys from law firm Silverman Thompson Slutkin White in October last year a week after being indicted. @JordanOnRecord noted it at the time: it was an oddly serious hire for sending messages to a supposed stranger on Facebook. 3/

To people posting Judge Aileen Cannon's wedding picture to imply she's inexperienced - please don't. It's 14 years old, & judges are allowed to get married. Use her actual resume, at link. And maybe ask why you can't find pictures from the last 14 years 1/

Cannon's resume is extremely thin but she was confirmed in the Senate by a 56-21 vote. So this is not a simple gotcha. Journalists can ask Sen. Marco Rubio why he nominated her. They can ask if it's normal for candidates to scrub their social media. 2/

The system of picking judges for lifetime office is clearly flawed. The Vetting Room, in their piece on Cannon, says "..the Trump Administration has made an art form of finding attorneys who barely squeeze in under the twelve year practice requirement" 3/

Cuoy Griffin of Cowboys for Trump, who watched the fighting on Jan 6, has set another J6 precedent. A NM judge has removed him from office for insurrection, the first such case since the Civil War. The same may apply to J6 pols like Doug Mastriano, Mark Finchem, JR Majewski... 1/
A NM state judge removed Griffin based on §3 of the 14th Amendment of the US constitution - "No person shall...hold any office.. who..[has] engaged in insurrection.." Written to prevent Confederates from holding office after the Civil War, last invoked in 1869 (h/t @rparloff). 2/
The ruling makes use of Griffin's fiery speeches - " this is a battle and a war that we cannot lose.." "We'll win it.. in the ballot box or..in the street" - & all the evidence DOJ brought to trial: he watched for nearly 1.5 hours, urging the crowd on. 3/

To consolidate info about the docs seized in the Aug Mar-a-Lago search, here are 2 essential diagrams from @emptywheel (R) that summarize the inventory (L). The worst stuff (TS/SCI level) & most of the empty classified folders are from the leatherbound box in Trump's office. 1/ ImageImageImage
Another detail made clear by @emptywheel's spreadsheet: the news clippings are likely organized by subject. They are not random: each box covers a distinct block of time, but those blocks can overlap. And January 6 is missing, as @emptywheel points out. 2/

In summary: that list is not what you get from hasty packing (as Politico implied). It looks like a rough organization by subject, with the most valuable material kept separately in the box in Trump's office that supposedly only his family knew about. 3/

The DOJ's new filing on the Mar-a-Lago search is extremely clear: Trump doesn't own the docs; he obstructed rather than cooperate; the docs are security-critical. It's a careful description of indictable crimes, and also adds info about what the FBI's been doing since Feb. 1/ Image
Lots of lawyers have weighed in so no need to repeat - here's one of those threads. Everyone seems to agree the filing is masterful & crafted to not just deny the Special Master request but to build a case (incl. the dramatic photo of top secret docs) 2/
Will just add some things that haven't been highlighted. Helpfully, the Trump team has largely not lied about the basic sequence. We now learn a bit more about how the 3 stages played out - both the obstruction and the FBI's active investigation. 2/
