I believe I have identified three of the people in yesterday's Trump golf course photo and I actually think this relatively innocuous explanation holds up.
Yet another lesson in not breathlessly speculating or repeating things partisans are sharing on Twitter. How many #resistance experts were sending out tweets with supposedly knowing commentary on the mob and lawyers?
I swear half these supposed crime experts are just throwing around slang they learned watching the Sopranos.
This also seems to be correct! Also, standing outside in an area where you can be photographed is not great for a sensitive meeting! There are mics designed for that sort of thing.
Back in April, a law enforcement source told me that they heard DC Metropolitan Police officers affiliated with the presidential motorcade share a story of Trump demanding to be drive to the Capitol and getting into an altercation with Secret Service on January 6.
I heard this story months before Cassidy Hutchinson went public with these allegations. I believed the story to be credible at the time because of the source. I am withholding their name due to their position.
At the time, I chased the story. I was unable to identify the names of the MPD officers assigned to the motorcade that day and had to go underwater for other writing projects.
I have been off Twitter for a bit as I work on writing projects, but in the past few days, I noticed a flood of crazy, angry messages coming in to my various inboxes.
What might have happened? Why would people be randomly targeting me with vitriol and harassment? Well, apparently @tuckercarlson did a segment about me on Monday.
Tucker tried to criticize my work and credibility to make some convoluted point about @StephenAtHome. I see now that his fans have been screaming into the void of my mostly dormant Twitter account for days.
I think one problem with the internet is that it increases the focus on meta commentary rather than substance. We saw it today with the endless onslaught of Roe leak takes.
There was just endless content with people speculating about whether it was leaked from the right or left. At least half were wrong. Most were questionably informed. And all of it was worth what?
In a pre-digital environment, one outlet would have a scoop like that and others would follow the next day with meaningful additions.
Joe Kent was one of the Republican politicians who attended the "Justice For J6" rally in DC last fall in support of arrested rioters. rollingstone.com/politics/polit…
I just ran across this when I was trying to find the old piece on that protest. There was some hedging but this take aged pretty horrifically @BillMeincke. theclick.news/opinion-rollin…
Also - this seems to have been a j school assignment. Here's a free one tweet class for @nyu_ajo - reaching out to people for comment is an essential practice even in the op ed space. You might say not doing so is an ethical "rock bottom."
