I want to call on @ECPR to review recent tweets by @Gia_Passarelli, a member of the Executive Committee.

Prof. Passarelli received criticism after organizing a #manel at the recent @sisp__ conference.

In my opinion, his demeaning responses break the ECPR Code of Conduct.

🧵
Prof. Passarelli's responses came as replies to two threads under tweets criticizing the manel from @duncanmcdonnell and @CasMudde

Initially mostly defensive, Prof. Passarelli's comments quickly took a nasty character.

For example, he accused post-doctoral researcher @georgovenizelos of being ignorant for pointing out that Italian academia has problems with gender diversity.
With no irony, Prof. Passarelli accused @TalesTomaz of racism for pointing out that the panel was not only all-male, but also all-white.
He told @drsope, a (black female) law Professor @StellenboschUni, that she would have 'learned a lot attending'.
His nastiest reaction was saved for @chiaraenroute however, a women's rights researcher.

He told her she was a troglodyte.
Only after @dfarrell_ucd publicly apologized for his involvement did Prof. Passarelli's tone change.

Having insulted and demeaned the women and junior scholars calling him out, he finally recognized the #manel was a mistake.
In my view, @Gia_Passarelli's tweets violate the @ECPR code of conduct, which require Executive Committee members 'to adhere to the highest standards in their conduct'.

ecpr.eu/ContentPage.as…
I call on @Gia_Passarelli to make a public apology to all those he has insulted.

I also call on the @ECPR Executive Committee to distance themselves from his demeaning and sexist comments.

Sexism and bullying should have no place in political science.

In this fragmented #EP2024 result there are lots of stories to tell.

One thing I'm missing in commentary this morning is the near-total absence of a left-wing vote in Poland and Hungary.

🧵
The media/analyst framing I've read so far focuses on two duels.

In Poland, between the governing #CivicCoalition (KO), dominated by Tusk's Civic Platform (PO) and the hard right Law and Justice party (#PiS).

In Hungary, between Orban's #Fidesz and challenger Magyar's #Tisza.

Zoom in on #Poland

The big picture is a shift from PiS (-5 seats) to far-right Konfederacja (+6)

The Tusk-led KO (mainly EPP) has 20 seats, like PiS, but more votes.

The united left (Lewica) are at 6% & 3 seats while right-w. lists (TD, KO, PiS, Konf.) take >90% & 50/53 seats! Image
