Initially mostly defensive, Prof. Passarelli's comments quickly took a nasty character.
For example, he accused post-doctoral researcher @georgovenizelos of being ignorant for pointing out that Italian academia has problems with gender diversity.
With no irony, Prof. Passarelli accused @TalesTomaz of racism for pointing out that the panel was not only all-male, but also all-white.
He told @drsope, a (black female) law Professor @StellenboschUni, that she would have 'learned a lot attending'.
His nastiest reaction was saved for @chiaraenroute however, a women's rights researcher.
He told her she was a troglodyte.
Only after @dfarrell_ucd publicly apologized for his involvement did Prof. Passarelli's tone change.
Having insulted and demeaned the women and junior scholars calling him out, he finally recognized the #manel was a mistake.
In my view, @Gia_Passarelli's tweets violate the @ECPR code of conduct, which require Executive Committee members 'to adhere to the highest standards in their conduct'.
