The Pandavas visit #Kedarnath after the Mahabharata War to atone for the sins of committing gotra hatya and Brāhmanahatya. But Mahadev take the form of a bull to hide from them. But bhima recognized him and cought him with his back. Shiva disappeared into the ground.
The bull was torn asunder into five parts and appeared at five locations in the Kedar Khand as panch kedar.
That is why here shivling is in different shape compare to other shivlings.
There was a time when there was no proper way towards the Mandir.
But still the faith and the devotion of Bhakts was so strong that they used to face every difficulty to have darshan of baba kedarnath.
The Kedarnath valley was hit with unprecedented flash floods on 16 and 17 June 2013.
Landslide and mudslides occurred near Kedarnath Mandir with loud peals of thunder.
Water started gushing from Chorabari Tal down Mandakini river washing everything away in its path.
A huge rock got stuck behind Kedarnath mandir and protected it from the ravages of the flood. The waters gushed on both the sides of the temple destroying everything in their path.
The rock which protected the mandir is worshipped as Bhim Shila. #longthread
Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) was given the responsibility of Rebuilding Kedarnath Dham.
Under the leadership of veteran mountaineer, Colonel Ajay Kothiyal, NIM rigorously worked for a year and made the pilgrimage yatra possible from the next year.
