so this cataracts ophthalmology thing is a huge scam posing as an "industry" and seniors are being exploited and ripped off and if you complain, the review board basically gives it all a pass. looking forward to talking to @CTVToronto about this Monday.
are ophthalmologists angry people? because ... 🥶
if you have a relative who needs #cataract surgery in Ontario, make sure they/you are getting a clinic referral from someone trusted. ask if they take OHIP. Ask if there are any costs. When you visit, is the clinic overcrowded. No OHIP, extra fees, overcrowded clinic = red flags.
we're hearing of deceptive sales tactics, high pressure sales, sales of unnecessary services, exorbitant fees: all around cataract surgery at private clinics. worse yet: complaints are basically useless. decisions almost always made on behalf of the clinic
none of it looks very good for the industry, for the ford government, or for ppl who can't afford to jump the line and get what can be critical surgery. it's clear too that predatory behaviour on seniors is a big part of it.
and it seems awfully consistent and widespread for it to all be coincidence. i hope i'm not just tweeting out a story someone's been working on for months. and if no one has been working on it - someone should. the scope of this feels bigger and bigger by the day.
next steps? compiling the list, finding someone willing to take a deep dive on this. 🙏❤️
clinics with unethical practices around performing cataract surgeries : not too late to clean up your acts and start treating your patients like people and not maximum profit bombs! ❤️🙏

a small theory about why society feels like it is fragmenting right now: because it is. and it's a necessary evolution. a 🧵 (1/?)
in the postwar west we had a monoculture for decades. it ate everything. politics, culture, art, literature, media itself: trends waved across it and us and it touched all our lives in ways big and small.
the influence of "culture" started to increase decades ago just as complaints started to become more vocal about how oppressively singular it was. monoculture was eating everything ...
You have to have a LOT of hate, and substantial time and resources to do something like this. Like irrational hate + bias. Or things like create social puppet accounts to intimidate ppl and create tension. 99% of ppl do not have the hate or the time. So what is going on?
Is it really the ppl on opposing "sides" of an issue? What kind of mind would create literature encouraging ppl to choose MAiD? Either an extremely disturbed one, or a very calculating one. Who benefits from social disruption like this? Same ppl trying to interfere in elections
OMG. Federal government to reintroduce fed disability benefit bill at end of June (announcement live on Facebook) 🙌🏻❤️🙏🌞 ow.ly/RFVZ50JiAq9
Brief summary of the Minister's @CQualtro 's comments on the CDB in this back and forth with @BonitaZarrillo yesterday: 1. framework for this bill is the same as the one tabled last year 2. timing is ASAP but there are still many things to be worked out
including negotiations ensuring there will be no provincial clawbacks. 3. Consultations w the disabled community are ongoing.
4. Eligibility is being worked on b/c there is no federal list of PWD. Using provincial lists or the DTC list are both being considered. #doubleODSPNow
These are the scenes that break my heart. Yesterday this knapsack, full of life's essentials, was left under this tree. Today, no one has claimed it, it has been gone through through and half of it dumped out. What happened to this person? Where are they? 💔 #toronto
I worry so much about ppl making the transition from housing to homelessness. esp #pwd. it is one of the biggest shocks and most difficult things anyone will endure in life. there's no manual "so, now you're homeless!" there is little to no support.
you're making a difficult adjustment in every way but most importantly psychologically. community is most important at this time but when do you go? especially with the embarrassment and shame and sense of failure that can accompany. our egos can be cruellest at these moments.
