'I forgive you'
A thread focusing on the cycle of hatred in one piece, focusing majorly on nami and how she and others tie into this central theme. #ONEPIECE #ONEPIECE1060
My favourite thing about one piece is that it serves as a fountain of storytelling depth, because in its rather lengthy runtime, it has managed to touch on a number of different themes. One of these involves the theme of the cycle of hatred
The literary world is no stranger to this theme being explored, as it is popularly portrayed as the central theme of naruto, rooted in the deterministic nature of man's less altruistic tendencies, such as greed, envy and lust for power. However, one piece explores this differently
From the start of one piece, we are introduced to this, almost cartoonish world. There is no initial focus on the corruption of the world or determinism in relation to human actions. However, at arlong Park, we are first introduced to the concept of the cycle of hatred
For one piece, it is rooted in the idea of, prejudice and exploitation, usually starting from childhood. Enter Arlong, and the main inspiration for this thread, Nami. We are introduced to Arlong, this seemingly soulless pirate, who has set a reign of terror in East blue
Arlong grew up a troubled individual, and when he becomes independent, he decides to continue the cycle of hatred and oppression inadvertently, by exacting revenge on helpless people, just like he once used to be. Notice him going specifically to East blue, the weakest sea.
Oda uses nami as a foil to Arlong, and it's in her actions that we are shown that set in precepts are not absolute, and everyone is free to make their path. It's also in this dynamic we see that true strength is facing despair and not giving into it,rather than avoiding it
Arlong had been thoroughly scarred by the ghosts of his past. The embers of prejudice and racism scorched him at every turn. In the face of this overwhelming despair, he runs to somewhere where he could feel better about himself and go unchallenged, while hatred brewed in his heart
For all his talk of being superior and strong, he shows a human flaw, displacing his aggression on helpless people, while his hatred still ate him inside. However, Nami, in the face of overwhelming despair, stays true to who she is
Arlong gives up any form of purpose in life, dedicating it to running away from the insecurities of his past, furthering the cycle.Nami shows true strength :she continues to have goals, dreams, aspirations.Even as a child, in the face of arlong, she compromises but does not waver
We are told that nami does not like to have friends. Arlong is similar in a way, he is mistrusting, and believes in the fishmen being completely independent of outside help. But we have seen that only in unity can something truly great be achieved.
It is a known phenomenon that given the opportunity, the oppressed would often portray qualities of the oppressor, propagating a cycle of continuous prejudice. However, to break a cycle, one must let go of that weight.
Nami, with her back against the wall, let's go of all that weight. The truest display of strength is when a person is willing to confront their insecurities and let go. Nami initially has a disdain for pirates, but instead of holding on to it, she befriends one.
Nami, due to the trauma of her past, finds it difficult to form companions, but she is able to let go, and it is in companionship, that she is able to find victory.
Einstein says that one can not expect a different result after doing the same thing over and over again. Nami consistently shows strength of character by being willing to let go of all constraining emotions.
Whilst arlong defines himself as a symbol born of prejudice, Nami decides for herself what she wants to be. The brand given to her on her arm, which was meant to symbolise ownership, she turns into a mark of independence, symbolising love and companionship.
As such, she takes the first step in the series, in ending this cycle of hatred. On the wider scale, namis willingness to let go is the first step towards this cycle being ended in the series.
Her willingness to forgive jinbei, and accept fishmen, allow for not only her and her crewmates to enjoy benefits in fishman Island, but to be able to recruit a powerful crew mate, whose main goal is equality between both races
Her crewmates are ready to reject him, but nami is accepting. Therefore, if Jinbeis goal is achieved, it would all have been spawned by namis act of courage,as it is not easy to not let one's self be given into trauma and hate.
On an even grander scale, namis willingness to open herself up to others, pits luffy, the protagonist of the story, against his first true symbol of worldly oppression, setting him up for his true enemy, the WG, the true precignitors of world oppression and instability.
If you reached here, you're a Goat. I know it's not a conventional nami thread like the ones you'd see, saying stuff about her having orange hair and what not. But ay, I hope you liked it. Drop a like and follow if you care, and peace
@killernan77 @Geo_AW check it out lads
@bymoonlightea would really love if you checked it out

'it's been a while since I came to the surface of the world'

A theory on the true nature of the five elders, the source of their power and the secret behind devil fruits in one piece.
#ONEPIECE1094 Image
To start off I'd like to adress the talks of devil imagery, that have been floating round since the reveal of Saturn's ability, and rightly so. There has been a consistent theme of this starting from this curious image in the tomb of alabasta Image
It features, what appears to be some kind of 'devil' being sealed away or something along the lines. There is also the case post saboady or so, where we see these group of people attempt a devil summoning ritual. Image

Was just having some thoughts and was thinking about Ace and the more I think, the more I realise how insanely written he is and how well he ties into the narrative. This could be a thread but I just wanna ramble my thoughts for the most part #ONEPIECE Image
I think a lot of stock is put into Shanks being the one who inspires luffy to become a pirate, and this much is true. But you could argue that Ace was just as influential. Luffy through shanks sees piracy as a way to expand the boundaries of his freedom.
But with shanks not always around, his dream remains pixie dust because he has no one to push him or reaffirm his ideals and he's alone. Till he meets Ace. Through Ace his will to become a pirate is strengthened and he inadvertently gets stronger

'The strongest is strongest alone'

A thread on dracule mihawk, making inferences about his character, possible future role and key dynamics
#ONEPIECE Image
In a recent chapter of the egghead arc, when Zoro clashed with the mihawk seraphim, he mentioned something that struck me. 'you're not on his level because you still have life in your eyes'. This made me start to wonder about mihawk. Image
The saying the strongest is strongest alone Friedrich schriller came back to my memory, and from what we know of mihawk, seems to stand true. Image

'It is I'

A detailed breakdown of all of the facets of Enels character, including his visual characterisation, symbolism and narrative impact

#ONEPIECE Image
Hard determinism can be seen as the central ideology backing enels character. From the definition we see below, it lines up with what we see of enels character, and to understand his actions, we have to keep this in mind Image
Enels name, means 'lightning' in Italian. From even his dialogue, he serves to embody these uncontrollable actions of causation, providence which control and influence human action. Image

A thread on the life and themes of Portgas D ace and how the Novel recontextualises his themes and why every one piece fan should read it Image
I will start by saying that I used to dislike Ace and I felt people only liked him because he was cool and that his backstory was thrown in to make us feel sympathy. However, now i have more respect for the man who lived like a raging fire Image
One thing I always wondered about was why several things such as Aces hat, dagger case, necklace and some ornaments from saboady where left on his grave. Well, this is because these all served as an 'organ' for ace Image
