In many campaigns, sometimes there is an endorsement that serves as a finishing move. Today, the former mayor of Palm Beach County (!), a Democrat, endorsed #FLGov Ron DeSantis. #flsen #sayfie
It's hard to believe a South Florida Democrat who once served the tony liberal communities of Palm Beach et al. would endorse Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. Palm Beach Co. is one of the three big South Florida Democratic counties. (2)
To be fair, Palm Beach is probably the least Democratic county of South Florida. It has a lot of Republicans, as does Miami-Dade. Joe Biden beat Trump by less than 100K in Palm Beach in 2020. (3)
Endorsements usually do not matter much. They help more in primaries IMHO. In generals, they can get lost in the battle. But I recall a few that hurt. (4)
In 1988, Vice President George H. W. Bush was able to prove to voters nationwide that Mass. Gov. Mike Dukakis was too liberal, with police endorsements. 34 years ago this week, Bush won the endorsement of the Boston Police Patrolman's Association. In Dukakis' capital city. (5)
That one hurt. Dukakis moved to get his own police endorsers on stage the same day in Boston, but it was too late. The images of Bush in Boston with police hurt. (6)
In 2018, another endorsement that hurt was when former Kansas Gov. Bill Graves (R) endorsed Democrat Laura Kelly over Trump supporter and former SoS Kris Kobach (R). In 2018, it was striking, especially after Kobach had just beaten the Republican governor in a primary. (7)
Graves, a former lobbyist for the American Trucking Associations, has endorsed Kelly again, but it may not have as much impact this time. Gov. Kelly's opponent is the GOP AG and has closed the gap. #KSGov (8)

Meghan, I love you and Ben. But this is wrong-a-mundo. Let me explain. #sayfie (1)
DeSantis probably knows the Trump base better than most. And they will resent a candidate who competes with Trump in 2024 -- even in a congenial manner. So I am betting unless Trump drops out, DeSantis will not run in 2024. (2)
By 2028, DeSantis will have a large profile and more experience. He will also likely have a huge war chest and a large number of chits across the nation. The shiny penny you mention is on the scene now. And none of them look like they will be shinier in 2028. (3)

Can you imagine being the Pennsylvania and DC-NY media, and being scooped on John Fetterman (mayor and then Pa. LG) being SUED by his school district for unpaid taxes? It happened in 2015 and now again in 2022. #pasen

freebeacon.com/democrats/fett…
Most of the Fetterman unpaid tax stories are from local Pittsburgh media in 2016. The Free Beacon recently updated the story, noting the liens continued into 2019. (2) #pasen #pagov

Rule No. 1 about political reportage: You look up all public government records on a candidate. Arrest records. Tax liens and property records. Divorce and family. (Remember when the Tribune sued for the records of Obama's opponent in 2004?) (3)

Imagine if the Charlottesville suspect, James Alex Fields Jr., was let out on bail. (Fields was denied bail.) Why isn't the media calling this the Democrats' Charlottesville?
Is it really unfair or unusual to ask if Joe Biden's Sept. 1 speech had anything to do with the homicide suspect's decision to kill a "Republican extremist?" I think it's a question worth asking. The MSM should ask it. (2) Image
But I doubt the MSM will ask it. They have been flooding the media space with stories about Patriot Front, a small extreme group not affiliated with even a minor party. This is all in coordination with the Democrats' talking points. (3)

Bexar County (Texas) Sheriff Salazar basically admitted he is investigating #FLGov Ron DeSantis for violation of Democratic policy. Not a violation of the law. This continues the trend of Democratic abuse of the levers of law enforcement. (1)
The exact quote: "At this point I'm not able to definitively say 'Here’s the statute that they broke, either federal, state or local,' but what I can tell you is that it’s wrong. Just from a human rights perspective, what was done to these folks is wrong." (2)
That's a remarkable quote. You don't have to be a first-year law student to understand that @sheriffsalazar basically hurt his investigation from the get-go. salazar must have come under tremendous political pressure to do this. (3)

Just a reminder: Bexar Co. (Texas) Sheriff Javier Salazar had to look into three cases of child sex abuse at Freeman migrant detention center after #TXGov @GovAbbott threatened to close it in April 2021.
The migrant detention center in San Antonio, Texas, was toured by @JoaquinCastrotx in April 2021 after @GregAbbott_TX said he wanted to close it after sexual abuse allegations. (2)
I don't see @sheriffsalazar mention why migrants might not want to stick around San Antonio, Texas, after his own investigation into sex abuse at a migrant center. (3)

The Indianapolis Star, owned by Gannett, has launched a despicable attack on Diego Morales, the Republican candidate for Indiana SoS. They admit he's a veteran, and still question if he is. #journalism
The Indianapolis Star has often hit new lows under @Gannett's ownership. I never thought they would reach this low -- questioning an immigrant's service when they admit he was honorably discharged.
I've also never seen a newspaper use the definition of veteran as qualifying for federal benefits as the main criterion as a "vet."
