What's really interesting is that the sheriff had asked Bonta to investigate Inspector Max Huntsman and County Counsel for allegedly obstructing justice when they tipped off Kuehl that #LASD was going to serve a search warrant on her home last week.

Bonta said yes he would look at the actions of the IG and County Counsel - and then took the opportunity to take over the entire investigation because it would be in the "public interest."

Usually these type of complex, very sensitive public corruption investigations are led by @LADAOffice.

But DA @GeorgeGascon says he looked at the sheriff's case last year and rejected it.

If not the DA, @FBILosAngeles and @USAO_LosAngeles handle such cases. (See Ridley-Thomas, Huizar, Englander, etc.)

I guess they didn't like it either.

We'll see what Bonta does with it.

#LASD was investigating allegations Kuehl helped Giggans, a friend & campaign donor, obtain a lucrative contract with Metro.

Kuehl sits on Metro’s board.

She denies any wrongdoing and says the investigation is payback by Villanueva for her sharp criticism of him.

Giggans also denies any wrongdoing.

She sits on the Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission and is also highly critical of Villanueva.

All along, critics have said an agency other than #LASD should be conducting this investigation.

Meantime, a judge has ordered the sheriff’s department to stop searching cel phones and computers seizes from Kuehl’s home last week.
