The lawyer leading the @LACountyCOC investigation into deputy gangs inside the #LASD told the commission today that a sergeant and a captain were followed home by unmarked sheriff's cars after they testified last month.

The lawyer, Bert Deixler, said Captain Angela Walton knew it was an #LASD car because she once worked undercover for the department.
She took a photo of the license plate and Deixler displayed it on a screen.
Walton suggested running the plate.

Deixler also said a sergeant who had planned to testify anonymously about deputy gangs today backed for fear he would somehow be identified and not get a promotion.
Another sergeant also backed out "for fear of retaliation."
@AGRobBonta has "assumed control" of the investigation

What's really interesting is that the sheriff had asked Bonta to investigate Inspector Max Huntsman and County Counsel for allegedly obstructing justice when they tipped off Kuehl that #LASD was going to serve a search warrant on her home last week.

Bonta said yes he would look at the actions of the IG and County Counsel - and then took the opportunity to take over the entire investigation because it would be in the "public interest."
.@EunissesH Hernandez of @LADefensx, who advocates for abolishing the #LAPD as it stands now, has declared victory over incumbent LA City Councilman @cmgilcedillo, who has been something of a political icon in the LA's Latino community. @LAist
This is a bombshell

The latest @LACountyRRCC vote count had Hernandez leading Cedillo by 2,019 votes - an insurmountable lead, according to the Hernandez camp. Cedillo has yet to concede.
Hernandez leads 53.51%-46.49%.
One analyst told me, yes, Cedillo is sunk.
It's hard to overstate the importance of this outcome.
Hernandez, 32, was given little chance against the 68-year-old Cedillo, who spent 14 years in the state legislature before joining the council in 2012.
The first public hearing with sworn testimony is about to get underway in the @LACountyCOC investigation into deputy gangs...the hearing is at @LoyolaLawSchool.

Chief investigator for COC Bert Deixler says a "critical witness" who was going to testify today...dropped out Saturday...out of "fear of retribution"...says investigators have found "palpable fear" inside the #LASD over deputy gangs.
Deixler says county attorneys told him to keep secret information in depositions in civil lawsuits related to deputy gangs.
"I have rejected that proposal from County Counsel."
Hugely significant...could crack open new info on Banditos, et al.
