Over the last few days I have faced some criticism for my Air Filters for #Somerset Schools campaign👇🏻 Please donate! 🙏🏻

One such criticism is that I should be raising money for more school resources as that’s a bigger priority (a🧵)

My response to this? Imagine a school didn’t have any fire extinguishers or fire alarms. It had them last year (and the year before), but it got rid of them this year because all the adults are fire-safety trained now anyway

Now imagine there’s a fire. It’s only small, but it’s coming our way. Someone notices, and says we should probably get some fire blankets and extinguishers back in the classroom as a precaution

“No”, someone cries, “you shouldn’t do that until teachers are better paid.”

“No!” Says another. “You should be raising money for library books or a 3D printer”

🔥 But the fire is getting closer, and we don’t know how many children will inhale the smoke

These arguments are wrong and let me tell you why…

🚨 It is not, and never will be, either/or when it comes to our children’s health and safety at school 🚨

There is NO choice between more resources and health & safety at school. H&S wins every time. Qualifications? Former teacher, @NEUnion workplace rep, school governor!
