Whoopi gave the 93-year-old creator and original co-host a big shout-out when a sweet, smiling photo of Barbara appeared on the screen.
She said: “To the one and only Barbara Walters, who had a birthday yesterday. We wanna say, 27 never looked so good!”
Fans were quick to jump in on the birthday celebrations for Barbara. One tweeted: “Happy 93rd birthday Barbara Walters. Thank you for all you've done to encourage women to follow their dreams.”
In 1997, The View premiered with five women leading the show – Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Joy Behar, Debbie Matenopoulos, and Barbara.
She led the show until her retirement in 2014 and has not had a public appearance since 2016
She was noticeably absent from #TheView’s 25th anniversary celebrations that took place earlier this year as the original hosts reunited at New York’s Essex House where they first auditioned
Though not all of them took part in the festivities as Barbara, who created the show and was responsible for putting the original team together, was not present
Barbara sadly also missed the a big reunion event in June with all former hosts of #TheView that took place in the Bahamas - which left fans wondering when they would see the beloved host again
One thing’s for sure - Barbara is truly missed on the show. We’re wishing her a very Happy Birthday! 🎂
