We Gay men, Lesbians and Bisexuals campaigned for equality when you could be fired for being gay, evicted for being gay, shunned by your family for being gay, assaulted or murdered for being gay & very few people gave a fuck 1/

All we wanted was equal rights: employment protection, housing safety, to be able to walk down the street without being attacked, ability to marry who we love and simple respect from wider society. We gained that for the whole #LGBT community be peaceful campaigning 2/

We chained ourselves to railings, wrote to MPs, described the harms #LGB people faced calmly, whilst remaining steadfast in our own identity as Lesbians, Gay men and Bisexuals. We helped people realise we were no danger. We weren’t paedophiles, we weren’t AIDS spreaders /3

We didn’t want to suppress anyone else’s freedoms or rights, we just wanted equality.
It took decades but we managed it. LGB are broadly respected in society and can live Out and free. Many of us died in the process from AIDS, murder and discrimination. That’s a fact. /4

We hold that history and that sacrifice dear as many of our beloved friends are gone and not here to share our freedoms and happy lives. I’m never going to apologise for that.
We remembered the fear of realising you were young and gay and didn’t want future kids having that 5/

So what now? We don’t teach gay history at schools and most young #LGBT folk don’t know the past struggles and importantly don’t know HOW we won.

I see how Trans Rights Activists often conduct themselves and I shudder. It’s so counter productive vs wider public perception 6/

We never attacked people.
We never claimed to be anything other than Gay and Bi Men and Women.
We never tried to bring kids into our community recognising coming out was a process that puberty and sexual awakening was crucial to.
We never invaded others’ spaces. 7/

I look at what some trans activists are doing and I’m incredibly uncomfortable.
What’s wrong with being a trans identified male? Nothing! Just as there’s nothing wrong with being a gay male.
Why do you want to claim you’re Women just as a biological woman is? 8/

What purpose does that serve? You are eroding Womens’ rights, taking freedoms and social comfort and cohesion from another vulnerable group.
You claim we changed society ‘just enough’?
Yes of course we did because to go further is causing harm to other groups. 9/

I don’t support what you are doing, I can’t support, the appropriation of biological female identity, the medicalisation of children, the dissolving of the importance of sex and sexual attraction that defines who I am as a gay man!
You are working directly against my ID. 10/

And here’s the thing. After our decades of political campaigning and pressure … did you think us gay and bisexual Men and Women were just going sit and let you do whatever the fuck you wanted?
