Datar: This is related to living will and the right to die with dignity. After the earlier report, we found it to be unworkable.

Datar: Can't expect hospitals to constitute committee for withdrawal of life support followed by Collector to see the same. We've suggested how it been be amended. Union filed a counter saying suggestions are not acceptable.

Justice Bose: law now is no one can compel him to go?

Justice Bose: You're talking about a situation where you want them to take the decison in advance (before they are not capable)?

Justice Ajay Rastogi: Can't one committee at one go take a decision?

Datar: What lordship says is excellent.

Justice Rastogi: don't know when he may collapse. One committee and first kin to that person can take a decision.

SG: This needs examination. Some way can be found.

Datar: lot of times then there's no one to take a decision.

Justice Bose: To pull the plug?

SG: sometimes doctor recommends 1-2 days of ventilator. But that is very expensive.

SG: one a friend was on ventilator. His sons were deciding who'll foot the bill and decided against it. We collected money and he survived. So next of kin may not always be the best idea, there can be misuse.

Datar: Yes there may be but there should still be a way.

SG: We've seen that benefits are more, but even one misuse would be murder.

Justice Roy talks of the film whose life is it anyway: It would be interesting to see it in context of this issue.

SG: Jains have highest form of detachment in one of their systems. Bertrand Russell also wrote a beautiful Article about the right to suicide.

Justice Joseph: Suicides can be put to mental health issues.

Datar: Now there are helplines.

SG: That is because of shrinking families also perhaps. Nowadays only virtual friends, 5000 online but no neighbours or immediate relatives.
