Refusing to accept abuse, she left her in-laws and returned to her village in Odisha, only to face humiliation from her own community.

Determined to build a better life, Santoshi moved to Tamil Nadu, found work in a spinning mill, and gave birth to her daughter in 2012.
Inspired by a woman driving an auto-rickshaw in Chennai, she saved diligently and, by 2015, bought her first auto-rickshaw.

In 2017, Santoshi moved to Bhubaneswar. She enrolled her daughter in a government school and drove auto-rickshaws to make ends meet.
