summary: izuku has an imaginary boyfriend that looks a little bit too much like someone else.
---
when izuku gets asked out by monoma neito, he panics and
says he's already got a boyfriend. when the other boy keeps demanding for a date, he adds more layers to his lie. and when he finally gives in and goes to that fair with monoma,
he finds himself in a love triangle with a boy he doesn't really wanna date and one that doesn't even exist.
---
when he tells him, kacchan finds it hilarious.
"so you mean to tell me that you're cheating on an imaginary boyfriend now?" he asks from the top of the bunk
bed.
"don't be mean," izuku pouts at his dormmate. "i really wanted to go to that fair."
katsuki only laughs harder. "you're *cheating* on someone that doesn't even exist."
"you already said that," izuku rolls his eyes. "now he wants me to break up with him."
katsuki raises a brow. "or what?" he asks.
"or he'll tell him himself."
his friend immediately bursts into another fit of laughter.
"this shit is so funny," he says. "wait till i tell aunty about this—"
"don't!" izuku interrupts him. "don't do this... please."
katsuki stops laughing and stares at him incredulously. "don't tell me..." he starts as izuku avoids his gaze, "... don't tell me she believes it too?"
"it's not my fault!" he protests. "she heard about the rumors
and she was so happy i didn't have the heart to tell her."
at this point, katsuki is only laughing harder and harder.
"take your time," izuku waves, "i've got homeworks to do anyway."
"wait!" katsuki stops him before he can put his helmet back on.
"what does he look like?"
"what?"
"your boyfriend," he says. "you must've given details about him, especially to your mom."
"well," izuku thinks, "to begin with, he's really sweet and caring."
rolling his chair, he turns to the window and stares at the clouds in the sky. "he takes me on picnic dates and we eat strawberries together. sometimes we go to the lake on our bikes and he carries me to the water despite my protests because it's very cold,"
he chuckles. "we stay there until the night falls, then we dance under the stars..."
izuku takes a moment to think about it; he imagines himself falling asleep into his sweet boyfriend's embrace after they escalated back to his room, using the window to not wake up his mom.
"you're down sooo bad for that nonexistent person," katsuki finally breaks the silence, "no wonder everyone thinks you're a cheating piece of sh—"
izuku interrupts him by throwing him a random notebook that was on his desk, but he soon realizes his mistake when
katsuki starts to read it.
"is that *him*?" katsuki asks. "red hair, red eyes, sharp smile? oh! /told mina he was in another college when she tried to set me up with uraraka/? she did that?"
"well," izuku scratches his neck. "she did last year."
"so he's also in the baseball team of that colleg— wait, last year?" katsuki looks up from the notebook. "how long have you been together?"
"two years," he whispers.
katsuki laughs again. "two *years*?"
"our anniversary is in three weeks," he adds.
"cute."
silence envelopes them as Katsuki continues to read the notebook. izuku has keep a record of everything he's ever told there, so he doesn't lose himself in the lie.
"so, what's his name?" katsuki asks when he's done.
"well, i never gave him a name but remember that one time i asked you to call me because that toga girl kept asking for my number?"
"oh yeah the crazy one," he hummed.
"i had changed your name for 'K' and told her you were my boyfriend, so now everyone think his name
starts with a k."
"that's actually hilarious."
"it's not," izuku protests. "i'm a cheater."
"your boyfriend should've known better than let another man take you to a fair."
izuku can only glare as his friend.
katsuki rolls his eyes and throws him the notebook back.
"i said what i said."

katsuki choked as blood filled his mouth. suddenly, he couldn't see the battlefield anymore, he was standing in the middle of endless white. it was the vestiges world.
he knew what it meant, probably. he wouldn't make it. that was a sad thought. he really didn't want to die.
"kacchan?" he heard. turning back, he saw izuku standing there, looking at him. calling his name.
"kacchan!" izuku rushed to the ground, taking someone inside his arms.
ah, it was his corpse, the shell he no longer filled. izuku wasn't there, he was on the battlefield, embracing a body that life had already left.
"kacchan, please..." he heard izuku beg. it felt wrong. the izuku he knew would never have begged.
this is a world where hanahaki is extremely rare and people doesn't know a lot about it, except how to remove it. they don't know about the unrequited love or amnesia parts
katsuki had a surgery when he was 17. it was quite a strange disease, a very rare one — flowers that would grow inside of him as vines would constrict his lungs. he didn't remember much from that time, except that it was hard to breathe.
the flowers he choked didn't fade with time, they stayed the same throughout the years. he kept them in his living room, as a reminder of something he didn't know. he couldn't bring himself to throw them away; since the surgery he had felt as if a part of him was missing

"you really like him, huh?"
ochako jolted, startled by mina's voice, and turned to her friend, blushing, "well," she said, "i don't know."
"c'mon," mina insisted, "that's the kind of things i can tell."
ochako didn't respond right away, her eyes wandering until she spotted deku. "really?" she asked, observing her friend chatting with iida. "how can you tell? how do you know you like someone?"
"eyes don't lie, uraraka," mina laughed, "i saw how you look at him."
for a moment, ochako wondered what mina saw in her eyes that made her understand something she wasn't aware of herself. it was kind of troubling, that someone else could figure out what she couldn't. she wished she could. was deku also able to tell?

"midoriya izuku didn't get the change to become a pro-hero, but he definitely/was/ a hero. he saved a lot of people, defeated a lot of villains. he gave his all. he trained, hard. i even had to adapte his schedule to match his determination.
i made my share of bad decisions during my time on this earth, but you must know, my boy, that i never regretted choosing you. because if i were given the chance, if i were sent back to that moment when i made you my successor, i would choose you again in a heartbeat.
izuku midoriya was a special kind of hero. after he graduated, he went from agencies to agencies, travelling everywhere in the world, always discovering new places and meeting new people, to face the biggest threats of the world.
all for one's death had left the world with his legacy to deal with and izuku had chosen to fight in order to stop it from rising again. it was the battle he had chosen and he never regretted it.
because he never really thought of what he had left behind.
pirate katsuki who thinks being wanted is a good thing because he thinks the reward is for him and not /for/ him and bouty hunter izuku who has to stop him from surrending if he wants to collect the price for his capture

“congratulation on your success, kacchan,” izuku beamed, grabbing the drink a waiter had brought. “you really made a name of yourself.”
“i told you i would make it big, deku,” katsuki shrugged. “but my goal hasn't
changed, i still have yet to become number one.”
izuku only smiled, putting his beverage down on the table.
“i hope you'll understand then,” he said as he stood up and took out his pistol, pointing it toward katsuki, “because the reward for you is 250,000,000 of berries.”
