Continuing with the #Match2023 series, and after some mocks, this is how to 'set up' your interviews (IV). (Part 1)

1) Thanking Email - if you recieve an invite via human generated email, it is advised to thank and acknowledge it. Very brief and simple.
2) Scheduling - keep a calender where you can track your interviews so when hastily booking, you don't have clashes. It is prudent to not schedule your favorite as the first interview. Make sure time zones are taken into consideration. Slots do fill up quickly.
3) Preparation - Start by gathering information about the program, organization, coordinator, A/PD, Faculties, current residents, town, county, state. Most of the information is available on the website. Further google searches may be necessary. The more you know the them,
the better your IV. It is prudent to prepare a list of questions, preferably tailored to each of your interviewers. It is important to understand the programs vision, goals and situations. Not only all this info will help your IV but also help you later on your rank list.
4) Resident Meet/Pre-IV dinner - this is usually a semi-formal event that is very important as it's the first impression. These are your future co-residents. This is the time to make connections & showcase your personality with hobbies, skills etc. It is important to engage but
Also to not over engage. Be aware of your surroundings. If you keep interrupting everyone and not letting them have a turn to ask questions, that can come across the wrong way. Social etiquettes are very important here. Professional but fun.
5) IV day - clean, ironed formal clothes, shower, groomed, prefer non-swivel chair, a good HD camera/MIC (make a big difference). For the background, can be blank neutral color or non-distracting objects. Appropriate height looking directly into the camera, face straight. Must
Test out your set up well in advance, the day before and an prior to starting. Having a backup such as laptop, iPad or phone on standby is a good idea. Have the number of the coordinator or zoom details ready to use just in case. A glass of water on the side of the screen
Pen and paper. Perhaps, some notes that you need from #3. Close the doors, pets out of the room for less distractions. Devices plugged in and charged. Inform your roommates/family of the importance of maintaining quietness. Use the restroom prior. Try to limit your fluid intake.
Adequate lighting (I bought a ring LED that content creators use). Careful not to strain your eyes. Keep it natural but enhance as needed. Adjust the temperature to your liking. Turn off sound notifications on all devices. Get a good sleep night before.
6) Post Interview - write a tailored email with key highlights of the interview interactions with them. Send that within the next day or so. This will serve as a thank you and acknowledge your interest after IV. It will further highlight the key moments you shared together. This
Will make you a memorable candidate with the repetition of the 'key' moments of the IV interaction.
It is very important to maintain professionalism from the start to finish. Showcase your personality and skills. Be enthusiastic and gather information. Work on your IV set up so it is streamlined and looks professional without any hiccups due to technology.
Sadly, technical issues will arise no matter what, but limit them to the best of your ability.

This part was on how to prepare and set up your interview day, next part will be on the content of the interview day! Stay tuned. #MedTwitter #MedEd

#Match2023 After reviewing another batch of CVs, please find 🧵 on enhancing your CV.

1) Streamlined - I can't emphasize this enough. It should be easy to follow, organized, chronological when applicable and FORMATTED. Standard font, size and black and white.
2) Headings - it should be complete with information about you. Please include hobbies/languages/volunteering. Too often this is one of the factors in decision for interviews. Many say to avoid listing negative hobbies like vid games/social media (but I am biased, @GamerEMDoc).
3) Elaboration - please show some DEPTH about the experiences in a CONCISE manner. 'I performed H&Ps' is great but can you show what skill/life lesson you have learned on a deeper manner? Specific procedures. EMR. Unique exposure etc.

#Match2023 After reviewing 20+ personal statements, here are some of the common suggestions to enhance your PS.

1) Uniqueness - find experiences, attributes that really highlight YOU and your journey. Talk about things that really make you stand out and a memorable PS.
2) Specificity - everyone is hardworking, team player, humble etc. Simply stating it has no meaning. Illustrate it with very specific examples from your life and experiences. Not only will this lead to uniqueness but again make you more memorable.
3) Concise - personal statements are not very lengthy so no need to fluff up your personal statements. Find powerful and meaningful sentences that illustrate the above and YOU.
