Control of the US Senate will likely come down to three races: Georgia, Nevada and Pennsylvania. The party that wins two of those three is poised to hold a narrow majority.
Pennsylvania Senate: “A John Fetterman victory over Mehmet Oz would singlehandedly open up the Democrats' path to the majority. But if Oz comes from behind to win, it would be a sign that the polls underestimated the depth of Republican enthusiasm and economic malaise.”
Nebraska-02: “Rep. Don Bacon regularly wins a critical mass of Democrats in a Biden-friendly suburban Omaha district. But Democrats nominated a more moderate challenger this year — state Sen. Tony Vargas. A Democratic upset here would be a major red flag for GOP prospects.”
Today marks 5 years since 60 people were shot and killed and 411 more were wounded at the Rt. 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas. It also marks 7 years since 9 people were shot and killed and 8 more wounded at Umpqua Community College.
Here are some of their stories 🧵
We can never forget the lives taken and the lives that were forever changed by these horrific acts of gun violence. (CW: graphic descriptions of gun violence)
“I wore my concert wristband for a couple of months after and then decided to tattoo [it] on my wrist because Route 91 is with me everyday… My life has been forever altered by gun violence, and I wouldn’t wish this kind of trauma on my worst enemy.” momentsthatsurvive.org/tribute/reina/
Given CPAC’s unabashed allegiance to longtime enemy of democracy, Vladimir Putin, it’s worthwhile to re-examine the decade-long relationship between Russia, the NRA, and the Trump administration: cnn.com/2019/09/27/pol…
If you go back to 2010, Alexander Torshin, an upper-ranking member of Putin’s party, became involved with a “U.S.-Russia exchange program” that the FBI believes “was an elaborate cover for a Washington-based Russian spy recruiting effort.” politico.com/story/2018/08/…
Around that time, Torshin is connected to a Nashville lawyer who has an office in Russia, who in turn connects Torshin to then-NRA president David Keane.
WATCH: Highland Park survivors, represented by @Everytown Law and partner firms, today sued Smith & Wesson, Bud’s Gun Shop, Red Dot Arms, the shooter and his father for the roles each played in the 4th of July mass shooting.
From the complaint by families of those killed, those who were shot and wounded, and people who were at the parade: “The mass shooting at Highland Park’s 4th of July parade was the foreseeable and entirely preventable result of a chain of events initiated by Smith & Wesson”
The lawsuits allege that Smith & Wesson’s marketing of the murder weapon was unfair and deceptive, including because it misleadingly implies a non-existent association between its “M&P” (Military and Police) line of assault rifles and the U.S. military.
THIS IS NOT OK: Republican Judge Kellie Johnson was appointed to the Pima County Superior Court by Republican Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey just ruled that the state legislature can make abortion illegal.
Arizona GOP Attorney General Mark Brnovich, who led the legal process to try to get Arizona’s pre-statehood ban on abortion put back into effect after the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in late June, tweeted that he was pleased by the decision. #thisisnotok#azleg
Gun violence and crime are key issues for voters this cycle – and Democrats are effectively flipping the script by highlighting that it's the MAGA Republican agenda that puts profits for gun manufacturers ahead of public safety that’s responsible.
Last night, @Everytown released a new ad in #WISen highlighting how @RonJohnsonWI has enabled rising violence and new polling that shows the vast majority of Wisconsin voters support stronger gun safety laws that he’s continually opposed.
In #SC01, pediatrician and @MomsDemand vol @AnnieAndrewsMD’s first TV ad shows how gun violence devastates families and erases far too many lives – and yet her opponent @NancyMace votes against bipartisan gun safety bills.
