Chairs of three Congressional committees just sent a letter to President Biden demanding he lift sanctions against Cuba following Hurricane Ian.
U.S. sanctions prevent Cuba from importing construction materials that they need to rebuild.

The sanctions against Cuba are a relic of the Cold War and were imposed immediately after the Cuban people overthrew US-backed dictator, Fulgencio Batista.
The sanctions prohibit US companies from selling to Cuba, and block foreign companies that trade with Cuba from US markets.
U.S. documents explicitly state that the sanctions aim to destroy Cuba.
State Department memos say that the sanctions are intended to "weaken the economic life of Cuba," and "decrease monetary and real wages, to bring about hunger, desperation and overthrow of government.”
Hurricane Ian severely damaged Cuba’s power grid and destroyed tens of thousands of homes.
The letter to Biden states: “Just as in our own country, significant recovery efforts will be necessary to rebuild from Ian’s devastation.”
In 2005, Cuba offered to send doctors to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Katrina killed nearly 2,000 people, overwhelmingly in Black neighborhoods.
Even though local officials wanted Cuba’s help, President Bush rejected the offer while his own government failed to respond.
The three Congressional chairs are not the only ones demanding an end to sanctions against Cuba.
On Sunday, 188,000 New York Times subscribers opened their weekend papers to a full-page ad calling for Biden to temporarily lift sanctions against Cuba.
So far, Biden is continuing the Cold War/Trump policy of strangulation, apparently to use this disaster to increase pressure on the country.
With both countries reeling from the same storm, isn’t it time for a change?

Ahmaud Arbery was chased down and murdered on a country road by three white men in a pickup truck. Will the perpetrators of this modern-day lynching go free?
Could we be staring down the barrel of a Jim Crow jury in 2021? Here are the facts.
Arbery was murdered in Glynn County, which is 27% Black. 11 Black jurors were part of the original pool of 65 juror, and only 1 Black juror ended up on the trial.
Is this a jury of peers?

"Derek Chauvin had 26 incidents before George Floyd. He had kneeled on the neck of 7 people before he did this to the 8th person, George Floyd. He had killed 5 people before he killed George Floyd."
Derek Chauvin was involved in the killing of four individuals – five including George Floyd – and shot a 6th person in the abdomen.
Here are their names:
- Klevar Jacome

- Everett Vivar
- Wayne Reyes
Chauvin shot Ira Toles directly in the abdomen.
Derek Chauvin has 26 incidents of police misconduct (that have been reported). Prosecutors in his murder trial have sought to introduce 6 separate instances of Chauvin using excessive force by kneeling on people to restrain them, which would make seven including George Floyd.
