@EU_Commission’s request for ICHREE’s mandate renewal is unacceptable. It had ample time for that. The narrowly extended mandate of the Commission for 1 year would be a waste of public funds. ICHREE has shown that it cannot do a professional job.
There will not be genuine cooperation with the Government of Ethiopia under these dire circumstances.
The unsolicited renewal will undermine ongoing measures taken by the Government of Ethiopia to ensure accountability for violations of international human rights and humanitarian law.
EU’s call on the Government of Ethiopia to “facilitate unfettered access for the ICHREE” proves that it has wittingly overlooked measures taken by the Government to cooperate with the Commission.
A high-level Government delegation held a dialogue with the Commission in Geneva on 26 May 2022. The Commission visited Ethiopia in July 2022 and met with high Government officials. GoE tried its level best to reach an agreement on possible modalities of work but to no avail.
The ICHREE has proven to be a political instrument that failed to professionally and reasonably carry out its quintessential mission and along the way observe its non-negotiable duty.
#Ethiopia recognizes the overwhelming support received the Council. The resolution was adopted by a margin of two votes. Taking the abstentions into account, this shows that the resolution lacks credibility and future sessions could factually be defeated.
Unsurprisingly it betrays the political intentions of the sponsors. Be that as it may, #Ethiopia is committed to ensuring accountability and redoubling efforts of the Inter-Ministerial Taskforce.

On #TPLF’s allegations of aerial attacks on civilians:
On October 4, 2022 the TPLF falsely claimed that a drone attack on #IDPs in Adi Daero killed over 65 civilians and injured many more.
#TPLFTerrorisGroup has made it a habit to falsely accuse the Ethiopian and Eritrean Governments of targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure by drone attacks.
On September 27, the TPLF also claimed that an airstrike by the Eritrean Government at the same site in Adi-Daero killed and wounded numerous civilians.
Official Position of the Ethiopian Government on the Provision of Humanitarian Assistance: 👇
✅ Ethiopia is committed to upholding its responsibility under international humanitarian law.
✅ #TPLF reignited the conflict, looted and siphoned fuel and other humanitarian supplies for its destructive agenda.
✅ The Government of Ethiopia has been committed to the delivery of aid to affected areas. It has taken several measures to ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
