1/9. 👇 @antraasa is talking about former Deputy Commissioner of @teainfo, Dr. Jeff Cottrill. In 2021, it was pretty widely known in #TxEd circles that Cottrill wanted to exit the agency & was looking for a superintendent position in Central Texas. #RRISD1family
2/9. If his name looks familiar to @RoundRockISD folks, that's because around 9/2021 Trustee #DanielleWeston had started cc'ing/bcc'ing Deputy Commissioner Cottrill on numerous internal emails (including several protected from disclosure as @tuxedo_jack has previously chronicled)
3/9. In 10/2021 the #RRISD school board received notice from Cottrill that @teainfo was assigning a monitor to our district & attributing this decision to a complaint filed by @RoundRockISD's former staff attorney against former board member & president Chad Chadwell in 2019.
4/9. In 12/2021 @teainfo announced that David Faltys had been assigned to monitor @RoundRockISD. His 1st recommendation was that the newly hired superintendent be placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation of a civil action filed against him.
5/9. the widely known education law firm Walsh Gallegos referred former superintendent #AnnDixon to do an independent investigation. At that time two other agencies were also investigating allegations against Dr. Azaiez & both of those concluded with no findings of wrongdoing.
6/9. After #AnnDixon's "investigation" the board voted 5-2 to have a report finalized for a meeting on 3/8/22. #TerribleTwo Trustees #DanielleWeston & #MaryBone voted "no". The board voted to reinstate Dr. Hafedh Azaiez as superintendent in an identical 5-2 vote on 3/24/22.
7/9. Ann Dixon's report was inconclusive but in it she stated the following: "Dr. Azaiez in (her) opinion could not come back into his position and be effective." A majority of the board disagreed with the conclusion reached by #AnnDixon in her report.
8/9. By this point a majority of the board had likely figured out what Dr. Michael Seabolt already knew — #AnnDixon is NOT trained or certified as an INVESTIGATOR— but she seems more than willing to reach a specific conclusion to justify a desired outcome.
9/9. On 5/10/2022, six weeks after the @RoundRockISD school board finally voted to reinstate Dr. Azaiez as the superintendent, Deputy Commissioner Jeff Cottrill was named the lone finalist to become the new Superintendent of IDEA Public Schools. ideapublicschools.org/blog/idea-publ…

Coach Marsha is a badass at managing the room. Kudos to her bc it ain't an easy one... And in an an ultimate pot-meet-kettle moment, Danielle just lectured President Weir about using "rhetoric" for saying the goals should support % growth without breaking individual students.
Reading Academies is only required by state for K-3 and #RRISD is (thankfully) implementing it for K-5. Not all schools have been through the training yet. Amy suggests adding 10% points for groups that need most focus. @ryansmithblog will update goals based on new assumption.
Anyone know whether the @RoundRockISD BoT meeting still starts at 5:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.? There appear to be conflicting notices on this. #rrisd1family
The meeting has now started. The board members are saying the pledge. They will be taking public comments next. There's a strange echo on the feed that will make this meeting difficult to listen to virtually if it isn't corrected.
First speaker is Snehal the President of the Counsel of PTAs. She's hear to welcome the new trustees.
1) Good teachers know where their students are & make adjustments based on accurate data points & benchmark tools. Nonetheless, Districts haven't accurately represented student knowledge or broken down data by student population, etc. #rrisd1family
2) This has exacerbated the extreme disparity in student outcomes by race, income & disability. Historically districts have been unwilling to address these issues. This is often worse in high performing districts where it's easier to mask disparities with overall high performance
3) Racist attitudes of local governments, real estate markets, and capital expansion pressures often have an oversized impact on District decisions; @RoundRockISD is certainly no exception. USDE approved the TEA's ESSA state plan in 2018 and the reporting requirements changed.
US: "22 million people have filed unemployment in 4 weeks." @roundrockisd: "If we don't raise property taxes now we will fall behind other districts who do."
Me: 🙄 "Let them eat cake." #rrisd1family
.@vessacory: "I'm concerned abt assumption that enrollment will increase by 500. My concern is that #COVID will cause students to leave"
✋My son is worth $25K in revenue in #SPED to @roundrockisd w/ basic allotment & if he doesn't get synchronous learning soon, I'm leaving.
.@sfloresRRISD: we're in daily contact & that's a discussion as we talked about earlier something about online learning, things are great. If we lost 500 students I'll come to the board & something about companies, please give us money, blah blah. Nonetheless, everything's great.
1/7 Since @roundrockisd started it's 2016 @roundrockcurriculum project, & #rrisdtech's push 4 widespread use of Google Classroom/Chromebooks in elementary schools, & @HoldsworthCentr leadership training began consuming significant amts of #rrisd1family teachers' PD time...
2/7 No improvements 2 literacy/numeracy in @roundrock is indicated & declined for vulnerable student populations (including #SPED). Yet @roundrockisd still uses skills focused read'g strategies, while schls w/ better resources & lower teacher turnover deliver target'd support.
3/7 There are other valid issues/concerns/perspectives that members of @roundrockisd see and experience daily. #eduequity is a constant project that requires dedicated effort and HONEST self-reflection. The work is hard, but so WORTH IT!
We're more concerned about your continued efforts to thwart the efforts of @roundrockisd citizens to gain access to public information, Sandra Carpenter, not the Board leadership's efforts to hold the District accountable. You aren't fooling anyone. #rrisd1family
President Chadwell: "you've questioned our integrity. Why can't we vote against the administration & ask questions in an effort 2hld the District accountable?" @roundrockisd Sandra Carpenter: "You can, as long as it isn't against best interest of the DISTRICT." #rrisd1family
