A few random but serious thoughts as they concern the 2023 General Elections. It'll be a long thread but please bear with me.
1. The BVAS System.
Most people think the new Electoral Act compels @inecnigeria to use BVAS for the biometric accreditation of voters. That's a lie.
2. What the EA says in sections 47, 60, 61 & 62 is that a smart card reader or tech device will be used to accredit voters; then results transmitted according to guidelines set by INEC.
Nowhere in the ENTIRE EA are the words 'biometric' or BVAS used. Even e-tranmission no dey.
3. So while the current Chairman has committed to using BVAS; if he is removed a new pro-government Chairman may decide to use the old smart card readers which 'successfully' accredited voters in 2015 and 2019.
This is why the CUPP warning must be taken seriously.
4. We have precedent. This was how the CJN was removed ahead of the 2019 elections that the CJN & the Supreme Court ultimately decided in Buhari's favour.
Already pro-APC Commisioners have been confirmed by the Senate. There is a court case in Imo to strike out the use of BVAS.
5. The use of the BVAS will transform our elections. It'll ensure that multiple voting is eliminated' and that the person who presents the card is the actual owner of that particular card.
It is essential we demand that its use is non-negotiable.
I've said on many platforms that bcos of what the APC did on 20/10/2020 at the Lekki Tollgate, they should not be part of any democratic conversation: democrats do not massacre unarmed protesters.
Mistakes happen; but why are young Nigerians defending this mistake?
Even @ProfOsinbajo acknowledged the tragedy; yet Gen. Eneche calls the videos photoshopped & is made a member of the PCC?
8. The Obi movement - for better or worse - is in part driven by the ghosts of #ENDSARS. The pain & trauma remains
There must be red lines we REFUSE to cross.
Gen. Eneche must be removed. His inclusion on that list sullies the memories of those who lost their lives on that day.
9. DECORUM
Finally, we have to rebuild the public marketplace of ideas in our image & likeness.
When Tinubu tells people to shut up for demanding better government; we must reject that.
When pro-APC mouth pieces come on TV to shout at & threaten presenters we must reject that.
I watched @CTVpolitics as an APC man came to display behaviour better suited for a zoo than a studio
He lacked the depth needed to articulate his arguments; & when he launched a personal attack against @I_Am_Ilemona he showed he lacked self control, too.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance guys; shine your eye.

To come on TV to say this today, of all days, even as youths were being tear-gassed in Lagos is wild to me.
I still can’t talk about that night without getting emotional; and some fucker is coming to ask why young people chose to protest against police brutality?
It appears to have been recorded at the Candidate’s residence.
I prefer live interviews bcos you get to see the candidate think on their seats; but I’m happy with this bcos there were no ‘content-edits’ so what you see is what was said.
First question from Abati is on the messy VP selection process. Atiku, exuding confidence & composure, takes us through the process & calls on his right to select his VP.
He admits s there is an internal crisis but states that talks are ongoing with Wike & his men to resolve it.
1. In 2019, shortly after the presidential election the Supreme Court said he lost to Buhari, Atiku warned about the consequences of our doubling debt and the burden it would place on future generations
2. In 2020 @atiku again warned that debt-to-revenue had reached 99% & that again this voracious appetite for debt would bankrupt the nation and put future generations in financial jeopardy.
He advised the Govt on how to exit this debt trap but they sent Lai Moh’d to attack him.
Today, just like he predicted, debt servicing has finally surpassed Govt revenues.
Yet @atiku continues to proffer solutions out of this crisis: reduce Govt size; create a private sector led infrastructure debt fund; divest from unprofitable businesses; create new markets…
2. How was a question about the need for police reform and state police answered by Baba gloating about how he sent @seyiamakinde packing and instead said the solution to our security problems was a return to the empowerment of traditional/local leaders.
Like…how, Oga?
3. In case you did not hear well, Baba repeated it for the ones at the back:
APC is not going to give you state police.
As Baba start to yarn opps, @seunokin sharply change topic! 😂😂😂
4a. Ignorant.
On the appt of Dr. Doyin Salami, the president recalls being briefed by his new economic adviser that only 2.5% of Nigeria’s arable land is cultivated
That’s a lie.
2.5% is irrigated.
Yet he has based his ENTIRE economic recovery plan on this lie!
A few random thoughts, as it seems we have forgotten the mistakes of 2015.
Before we start, go take a look at my header. That is politics.
It is not fair. It is not just. It is the pursuit of power. And it will ONLY act fair, or just if that will secure power.
Let’s begin:
1. The 2023 elections will NOT be about fairness, or justice, or equity. It will necessarily be a choice between the two candidates the PDP and APC will present.
2. I’m seeing “anyone but [Atiku/GEJ/Osinbajo/Tinubu] tweets. Stop with the silliness. That’s how we got Buhari.
3. When TWO candidates emerge, dispassionately vote for the one who will protect & advance your interests, & consequently society’s interests
4. Parties do not present saviors or saints; religions & cults do. So PLEASE avoid demagogues. Again, that’s how we ended up with Buhari.
