As the last #Jan6thHearings unfold, here’s something everyone should know: there are at least THREE insurrectionists running for Congress right now, in WI, OH, and NC. Share this video and support the three Democrats who can stop them: wisdems.org/democracydefen…
Here are the Insurrectionist Three:
- Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District: Derrick Van Orden
- Ohio’s 9th: J.R. Majewski
- North Carolina’s 1st: Sandy Smith
All three were on Capitol Grounds on January 6. All three are trying to flip blue districts red. All three are getting national support from the GOP.
nytimes.com/2022/09/02/us/…
If they were part of maybe the greatest crime against American democracy when they were on the *outside* of Congress, what do you think these three would do from the *inside*?
So right now, click to donate to the three Democrats fighting against them: Brad Pfaff, Marcy Kaptur, and Don Davis. These House races could be nail-biters—and your donation, even if it’s small, could make a huge difference: wisdems.org/democracydefen…
Now, read on to learn more about each of them.
First: Derrick Van Orden, who moved to Wisconsin a few years ago, bragged in his memoir (titled Book of Man) that he’d harassed female junior-ranking service members while he was in uniform.

DVO ran for Congress in 2020 and lost—even while Trump carried the district. He used leftover campaign funds to travel to the insurrection.
thedailybeast.com/feds-let-gop-c…
Then @derrickvanorden got put on probation for trying to bring a loaded gun on a plane. lacrossetribune.com/news/local/gov…
Derrick Van Orden also blew his top at a 17-year-old library page because he was mad that they had an LGBTQ+ book display.

The Democrat in the race, Brad Pfaff @pfaff4congress, grew up on a dairy farm in Western Wisconsin and currently represents a purple district in the State Senate. He’s exactly the right kind of rep for this open swing seat. Let’s send him to Congress:
wisdems.org/democracydefen…
Next: J.R. Majewski of Ohio claims he brought 60-70 people to the Capitol on January 6.
wtol.com/article/news/l…
Majewski’s in tight with the QAnon crowd, and claimed he’d been deployed to Afghanistan when he was in the Air Force—which from what an AP investigation can tell, isn’t true: apnews.com/article/2022-m…
Majewski is trying to unseat Marcy Kaptur, the longest-serving woman in Congress, in a district that the GOP just redrew in order to defeat her. Let’s help @Marcy_Kaptur beat @JRMajewski—make a donation now: wisdems.org/democracydefen…
Lastly: there’s Sandy Smith. How much of a MAGA extremist is she?

She’s the kind of MAGA extremist who was endorsed by Roger Stone.
Facing allegations of physical abuse, Smith announced in an ad “I never ran over anyone with a car and I never hit anyone in the head with a frying pan,” which is… not the most comforting thing to hear from a candidate.
rollingstone.com/politics/polit…
D.C. had quite enough of @SandySmithNC on January 6—let’s make sure Don Davis @DonDavisNC—an Air Force officer, mayor, and six-term state Senator—defeat her on November 8. Chip in to help: wisdems.org/democracydefen…
In America, most of us believe that voters should decide elections. No matter where we live or what we look like, that’s a bedrock principle of American democracy. But these three Trump Republicans tried to overturn the will of the people on January 6.
If we don’t want another #January6th, it’s up to all of us to make sure the Insurrectionist Three don’t win Congressional seats on November 8.

Chip in here—your donation will be split evenly between the three Democrats—and share the video! wisdems.org/democracydefen…

🧵 There’s a lot of rightful focus on insurrection supporters and democracy deniers like Ron Johnson and Tim Michels. But in the GOP, the rot goes all the way down. Take a look, for example, at this Wisconsin Assembly race—which could affect the 2024 presidential election.
Context: Republicans in Wisconsin are gunning for supermajorities in both chambers of Wisconsin’s state legislature. On the Democratic side, meet Laura Gapske @laura4assembly. On the Republican side, the nominee is Angie Sapik—an insurrection fan.

The 73rd Assembly District, in the very northwest corner of the state, is home to Superior, which (with Duluth, MN) is half of the Twin Ports, one of the largest cargo ports in the country.

Since 1973, this district has been solidly held by Democrats. But now it’s at risk.

Dick & Liz Uihlein and Diane Hendricks have poured millions into the biggest single-candidate Super PAC in the country. These three folks got a $215 million tax cut in 2018 alone, courtesy of Ron Johnson. Their Super PAC has spent $22 million to help RoJo.

Voters seeing ad after ad after ad attacking Mandela Barnes with inflammatory, dishonest, and divisive messages deserve to know who is funding those ads, and why. The answer is simple: billionaires who made a TON of money thanks to Ron Johnson tax rule.
For more than a year, we at @wisdems and our allies and partners have worked to spread the word about how Ron Johnson ripped off Wisconsinites in order to hand a huge pile of money to his biggest donors—and himself. Those donors are now repaying him.

Just tuning in? @Tony4WI here.

I’m borrowing Chair Wikler's account for the day. 👇 Follow along!
I’ve said it before and I'll say it again: Politicians have NO business making your personal reproductive healthcare decisions.

As governor, I will always stand for reproductive rights and oppose any legislation that restricts access to healthcare. —TE
My Republican opponent is dangerous and radical. Tim Michels doesn’t support abortion access, even in cases of rape and incest. Under his leadership, Wisconsinites will officially be stripped of their reproductive rights.

We can’t let that happen, folks. —TE

Now that I’ve taken the digital keys from Chair Wikler and buckled up, please allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Tony Evers, I’m the governor of Wisconsin, and I’m running for re-election so I can keep doing the right thing for folks in our state. – TE

🧵:
As governor, I’ve spent the last 3.5 years moving Wisconsin forward—from supporting our public schools, small businesses, and working families to fighting for reproductive freedom and voting rights.

Together, we've gotten a heck of a lot done, but there's much more to do. —TE
Here's what we’ve accomplished so far:

✔️ ~5,000 miles of roads & ~1,500 bridges repaired
✔️ 15% income tax cut for 86% of working families
✔️ Investments in 6,200+ new small businesses
✔️ Internet access expanded to over 387,000 homes, businesses, & farms

The list goes on! —TE

Debate night. It's on. #WISen
Live stream at MandelaBarnes.com/debate
First question: marijuana legalization. Ron Johnson says it should be decided state by state, and that states should "look seriously at the harm being done by the legalization of marijuana."

Mandela Barnes is clear—"I've long supported the full legalization of marijuana" #WIsen
Second question on bail reform. The question (accurately!) frames the choice—should pre-trail detention be based on question of whether the accused might be dangerous and/or might skip trial... or based on their ability to pay?

RoJo goes for diversion/fear, predictably.

🧵 If the GOP gets supermajorities in Wisconsin's state legislature, they could pass voter suppression/election subversion bills that would threaten the 2024 presidential. So wherever you are, you should care about Leah Spicer @leahspicerforwi in WI AD51.
spicerforwisconsin.com
Wisconsin’s 51st Assembly District has been repped by Republican Todd Novak since 2014—and all of his elections have been *close.*

Margin of victory:
2020 - 1258 votes
2018 - 332
2016 - 723
2014 - 65

This year, let’s elect Leah Spicer and flip it blue.
Wisconsin’s 51st—which often votes Democratic at the top of the ticket, but has a lot of ticket-splitting, cross-pressured voters—is one of 2022’s very best chances to flip a GOP-held district. Particularly because we have a dynamite candidate in Leah Spicer.
