had once gifted him a beautiful painting of Lord Subrahmanya for saving his life. Rama Sarma was an ardent devotee of Maha Periyava. Once Maha Periyava sent word for him from Kanchipuram saying He has have fever. Rama Sarma came to Kanchipuram with his medicine kit. Maha Periyava
smiled at his medical kit and said, “I asked only you to come. I did not ask for your medication.”
Rama Sarma was perplexed. He said “I came with my medical kit because I was told you were having fever.”
Maha Periyava said, “if a body exists, so does ailments. In fact fever comes

to make the body alright. Why do we need medicine for that? I have a different medicine to cure the illness. I called you to prove that to you.”

Why is Maha Swami taking a bath when he has fever, he thought. After He came back he asked the doctor to check His temperature. Yes he surely was having a high fever. He then told Rama Sarma, “Let us both chant Vishnu Sahasranamam now.”

finished chanting He asked the doctor to check His temperature. It was normal. Maha Periyava said, “I keep telling repeatedly to the people, the various benefits from chanting Vishnu Sahasranamam. People also listen to me. But I have to prove to them the truth behind it, is it
not? That is why I used this opportunity. Bhagawan Nama eradicates the cycle of rebirth. When that is the case won’t it not eradicate the diseases that come in this birth?” He looked at Rama Sarma, “You continue to give medicines to your patients as you normally do. One has to
consume medicines when one falls sick but they can also consume the medicine of Vishnu Sahasranamam. When you write the prescription add one dose of Vishnu Sahasranamam to it. I wanted you to have faith in that and so I called you to show how Chanting Vishnu Sahasranamam cured
the fever.” He then blessed Rama Sarma and gave him permission to go back to Karur.
