How do programmers in other countries learn to program using their own language? I get the pushback that “API documentation” is all in English.

This is due to the #EnglishBubble Indians live in.

API documentation is available in all major languages.

Visual C++ in Chinese:
In Polish.
It’s available in tens of languages but #IndianLanguages are de-prioritized.

MNCs adapt. They localize to each country.

They don’t localize to India because Indians in the English-speaking bubble tell them there is no need.
You don't need to know English grammar or vocabulary or worry about how to speak it to code.

And this is not "English." Someone who knows English won't be able to get it. Programming languages uses a few keywords in Roman script, one can learn those.

When I look for the same documentation page in Hindi I get this. “
यह सामग्री आपकी भाषा में उपलब्ध नहीं है. यह अंग्रज़ी संस्करण है.”

Why?

Because China and other countries mandate that their languages be supported.

#EngishIndians: what’s the need?

learn.microsoft.com/hi-in/cpp/buil…
Don't talk out of your hat. I used to work at Microsoft.

Microsoft documentation isn't done by "local contributors" or volunteers. Microsoft decides and pays for it.

And China mandates Chinese. Even France mandates French documentation. India?

Lol. #EnglishIndians live in such bubbles with no idea how the world works.

1. Students across Europe do medical studies in their own language.
2. They can have reading level for English.
3. Most people don’t move. When they do they can acquire language skills as needed
Where is the evidence of this "advantage"? That some South Koreans or Japanese are learning English? Did you check how many times their GDP/capita is versus India?

You make up a mythical advantage while India is kept poor due to #EnglishApartheid.

Yes, people confuse that:

1. Learning English does not mean learning *in* English-medium. A child learns best in their mother tongue. We must give that option.

2. Learning in mother tongue doesn't mean one shouldn't learn English or other languages for communication. @svembu
That is why we have all these absurd comments which think they have scored come kind of point.

One can choose to communicate in a language most suited to those one is addressing. This does not change the fact that learning happens best in mother tongue.

This is why my book is called "The English *Medium* Myth."

The myth is that English-medium will help India progress. The govt has enforced this via policy. But this is a false idea.

India will progress faster if English-medium is not made a barrier.

Those that are happy with mandating English-only professional and technical education, IITs, IIMs, AIIMS, with no other language options, lose their shit when even the *choice* of education in the mother tongue is offered and start calling it "imposition." 😏 Why?
Rahul Gandhi supporter asking about competence 😆

Just to make the point for language advocacy— yeah I was top-50 JEE, got called by major IIMs. Also went to 50+ countries to study language use. Many are more competent. Your leader, probably not.

I do avoid illogical doctors like you.

Your errors.
1. Western/allopathic medicine≠English-medium. Medicine is taught in tens of languages.
2. Alternative medicine≠Hindi. Across the world people are researching alternatives, irrespective of language.

Only ignoramuses think we “code in English.”

Apparently they didn’t need to invent C++ or Java or Python. 😆

And English professors would beat Chinese hackers in coding. 😏

Every word English advocates in India speak is steeped in ignorance.

@sumanthraman
Check out how Japanese learn to program. Let me know how much English is needed here.

How the Chinese learn to program.

All APIs and documentation is available in Chinese, the Govt mandates it.

Only 5% of Indians migrate outside their home state. And a chunk of those is for marriage.

Less than 0.5% Indians emigrate.

But it looks the entire country’s policies are designed for those fractional exceptions.
"Insert language in Science"? What does that mean. Is Science taught without using language?

Every single study around the world shows that children learn science best in their mother tongue. Only #SlaveIndians thinks this is strange.

The advocacy of English-medium in India is based purely on "belief." There is no factual basis for it.

“Atheism” is a derivative of Abrahamism. One god less. Nonsensical for Indic traditions.

That’s why he makes a good collaborator with Islamists.
It’s fragmentary. Was never really taken seriously.

And it has little to do with “belief in god” or not.

It’s about atman and rebirth.
Firstly,
Sinha self-labelled as “atheist.”

Secondly, it looks like you take the West as the norm and their ideologies as universal.

That’s why you’re surprised by others saying “we’re not like that.”

But Western ideas are not “ethno-centric” and contingent on their history?
