"If any woman or girl suffers voyeurism, sexual harassment, assault or rape in consequence of the Scottish government’s lax new rules, the blame will rest squarely with those at Holyrood who ignored safeguarding experts and women’s campaigners."

Scottish women are so fortunate to have you! #WomenWontWheesht #WomensRally #RespectMySex #SaveOurSpaces
"Sturgeon [argues] that it’s transphobic to suggest any man would fraudulently claim a female identity. This claim is extraordinary. Nobody but the very naive can fail to be aware that predatory men are capable of going to great lengths to gain easy access to victims"
"This shouldn’t need saying, but in the current climate, it does: literally no feminist I’ve ever met claims all trans women are predators, any more than we believe that all men are predators."
"One of the most damning things I’ve heard about the consultation process for Sturgeon’s new bill is this: Murray Blackburn Mackenzie identified five female survivors of male violence who were prepared to meet with the committee and explain what had happened to them,/
"the severe impact it had upon their lives, and why they fear the government is making it easier for violent or predatory men to get access to women and girls. The committee declined to meet the survivors, telling them to put their concerns in writing. /
"Susan Smith, one of For Women Scotland’s founders, told me: “These women were prepared to parade their trauma and were rebuffed.” The committee did, however, find time to meet 17 trans-identified individuals."
"Rhona Hotchkiss says that vulnerable women in Scotland are being told “their concerns, their fears, their despair, must take second place to the feelings of men who identify as women."
And the survey which shows how desperately divorced @NicolaSturgeon is from public opinion on this matter.

Most people in Scotland values women's rights and safety, we'd like our politicians to value them too.

"Like most women in politics, Eddie’s policies have been side-lined in favour of talk about her appearance, misogynistic comments and doubts over her ability to do her job because of her gender." Nobody who writes that in non-parodic fashion is a feminist! metro.co.uk/2022/10/14/im-…
Honestly, Metro, we already have Pink News for misogynistic claptrap and idiocy. You won't beat them, but you will make yourselves look very silly!

We've been testing the claim that Nicola Sturgeon made on @BBCr4today @BBCScotlandNews @LBCNews and others about her history of feminist action.

We thought we'd look at the easy stuff, the bare minimum for an MSP; supporting motions. Thread
We searched on the Parliament website for motions with key words from 1999 when parliament opened and Sturgeon was elected to 2007 when she became a minister (and unable to add her name).

First we tried "international women's day"
This returned motions relating to victims of trafficking or domestic abuse. Familiar names, like Johann Lamont, Elaine Smith, Pauline McNeil, Sandra White, Kenny Gibson, etc reappear. Curiously, not the "real" feminist FM.

One for @NicolaSturgeon.

Most people who want to work at children's charities are not paedophiles or apologists. You might say they only represent a "tiny number" but children's charities are attractive to them for obvious reasons & so, we safeguard to mitigate this risk.
Or we should. When people start to think that identity or ideology matters more than safeguards, people will slip between the cracks.

If you claim to know that abusive men are an issue, why would you introduce a law that makes it impossible to weed out bad faith actors? #R4Today
During the committee stage of the GRR, it was clear there was no appetite for the suggestion that even those with prior convictions for sex offences should not be eligible.

Evidently, you believe sex offenders can, genuinely, wish to obtain a GRA. #R4Today

A great thread by Malcolm on the disturbing tale of barn castration (and not on farmyard animals).

Some have drawn attention to the echoes of the Manifesto from Action for Trans Health who demand unregulated surgical procedures. Details follow./
The Manifesto features a series of "demands" which are often wildly contradictory (no more clinics but surgery on tap) and never less than disturbing, but, in essence, boil down to unregulated & free body modification./

One might think this was just a fringe group of extremists, but ATH were taxpayer-funded & gave evidence to the Westminster inquiry on GRA. Bradley, the director, was cited in the report which adopted some of Bradley's recommendations./

Minister, Shona Robison will be up next talking about GRR
#WomensRightsAreHumanRights
#No2selfID
scottishparliament.tv/meeting/equali…
Robison says process is lengthy and intrusive. Only 6000 people out of 500,000 trans people have a GRC (is she suggesting this is likely number?!)

Mentions "international best practice" which we still haven't bottomed out.
Expects number will rise from 30 to 250/300 per anum.

Says it doesn't change definition of man or woman and how trans people can be excluded from SSS but then says trans people become their "legal gender"

Long list of what Bill doesn't do - we might ask what is the point?

Those of us who watched the session yesterday were dumbfounded by the blithe acknowledgement of incompetence by the Irish senator who championed self ID. Report with choice quotes./
#WomenAreWatching telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/…
"She said there was no system in place for ensuring people who officially changed their gender in Ireland were still called for potentially life-saving medical checks, such as breast screening or prostate exams, & revealed she was “embarrassed” by deficiencies in data collection"
"Senator Doherty also told a hearing of Holyrood’s equalities committee that Ireland had “probably about nine genders”, defended a push to rewrite legislation to refer to “pregnant people”, and insisted people other than women “can absolutely get pregnant”."
