Excited for #BlackAdam? Here is some recommended reading before the movie, follow the thread for more!

Lets begin with the beginning: The Marvel Family #1 (1945), by C.C. Becker and Otto Binder, was the newest magazine from the Captain Marvel Family, which introduced the anti-hero/nemesis, as his origin and the origins of the Marvel family, #BlackAdam

In 1977, years after DC got Fawcett, the official and direct sequel of that story would be publish on Shazam! #28, in the story 'The Return of Black Adam' by E. Nelson Bridwell (writer) & Kurt Schaffenberger (art). #BlackAdam

Ressurected by Sivana, #BlackAdam plots revenge against The Wizard and Shazam in a battle what goes across time and The Rock of Eternity (pun not intended). This story will ennd to be very influencial in several stories foward with the character.

Is worth remind that Shazam pre-Crisis have more humorous and heart-lighted stories, aligning on the stone and style of the Fawcett books. The #BlackAdam as we know today will come first in 'Shazam: The New Beginning' (1987) by Roy & Dann Thomas (writers) and Tom Mandrake (art).

The story overall echoes a more 80's grounded origin for Shazam, but still with room for humor and interesting choices. But remember when i said 'Shazam! #28' was influential? [+]

#BlackAdam here is basicly a grittier version show on that book, but was essential to shape the character as we know today, ans much of their versions follow the blueprint show here.

Jump to the 90's, with the terrific and, for many, definitive take of Shazam in 'The Power of Shazam! Book One: In The Beginning', puting together the originbal GN + the first 12 editions of the celebarted run written by Jerry Ordway. #BlackAdam

#BlackAdam here got a more pulp origin as the archeologist with lust of power, responsable for killing Billy and Mary batson's parents to take possesion of the amulet what transforms in the villain we all know.

#BlackAdam also is responsable for assemble the first team of villain to face the family, and show been a nasty mofo when he play with a team. But some of the core elemts are still there: his desire for power and no bounderies to get what they wanted.

Sadly, for now on we gonna see this cursed name a lot, but: Geoff Johns and David Goyer's JSA revamp the team and brought the character back in grand style. [+]

At the time writing the JSA and Hawkman books, Geoff Johns (with Don Kramer and Rag Morales) brought the classic 'JSA: Black Reign' (2005), which is a essential reading before the movie. #BlackAdam

With the schism caused by #BlackAdam abandon the JSA to build his own dangerous, violent team, Hawkman seixe control pushes the JSA to face the 'Black Reign' in a attempt to stop their violent brand of justice, in a soty what challenges both Adam and Hawkman.

And after that, another essential reading of the movie: '#BlackAdam: Rise and Fall of an Empire' (2006), from stories made during the maxi-series '52' with immense crew of writers and artists.

In a world when the Justice League has gone for a year, #BlackAdam seize control of Kahndaq and build his own "Adam family", but when everything starts to go well, villains conspire to take that happiness away from him, with dire consequences for everybody.

Adrianna and Amon Tomaz, which (spoilers) transform in the Mighty Isis and Amon (aka #BlackAdam Jr) are introduced here, and well, these are characters with major role in the movie. We gonna see their superhero counterparts? Time will tell us soon.

And following the events of '52', we have '#BlackAdam: The Dark Age' (2007), with the amazing Peter J. Tomasi
(writer) and Norm Rapmund (art).

With his family dead, without his powers and hunted by every super hero on the planet, #BlackAdam have to find the new magic word to bring his powers, and life, back on track, even if that means deal with the likes of Felix Faust.

And then, we jump to The New 52, which Geoff Johns, the snake with a hat, introduce the character again in the 'Shazam!' minisseries. Much of the origin of the #BlackAdam in the movie (plus Sabbac as a villain), come by this book, draw by Gary Frank.

And as direct sequel/companion of this book, we have 'Justice League of America #7.4: Black Adam', what answers how #BlackAdam got ressurected in the New 52, and if you compare the trailers with this book, will find some close similarity with the chain of events...

BTW: 'Justice League of America #7.4: #BlackAdam is written by The Snake With a Hat with Sterling Gates, with arts by Edgar Salazar.

And a extra: wanna see a story about Sabbac and doesn't know where to find? 'The Outsiders: The Devil's Work' (2004) by Judd Winick (writer) and Tom Raney (art) is the story to catch up. #BlackAdam

The recent-formed team lead by Nightwing faces the russian mob attempt to raise Sabbac on Earth in exchange of unlimited power. Well, there is a reason why the Intergang goes to the Kahndaq in the movie, and the intentions seems similar... #BlackAdam
