ORBAT of the Bersaglieri Brigade Garibaldi of the Italian Army circa 2019. A 🧵
#Italia #ForzeArmate #Military #tank Image
Overall, the brigade is a combined arms formation comprising Tank and Mechanised regiments supported by a substantial armoured Recon regt, an Artillery regt, an Engineer regt and the brigade’s logistics Image
Before we go into any more detail, it is important to note that Italian regiments are, in effect, equivalent to a US Army battalion which generally includes between 4-6 companies and up to 1000 soldiers
One of the interesting aspects of the brigade is its cavalry regt. A cavalry unit does not mean that it uses horses to move around but that its mission is to do what light cavalry used to do back in the 18th/19th century Image
Mainly, provide reconnaissance on the enemy and the terrain. To achieve this effect, a cavalry unit needs to be light and fast so that they can move ahead of the force and be faster than the enemy’s reaction time to recon him and avoid being destroyed in the process Image
In this case, Italian reconnaissance squadrons are equipped with two types of wheeled vehicles: the VTLM Lince to transport infantry and the B1 Centauro, a tank destroyer Image
Here is an overview of the composition of one of the reconnaissance squadrons

The Italian army is currently in the process of modernising its fleet of vehicles. The Freccia IFV will replace the B1 Centauro. Except for the Heavy armoured squadron of the battalion that will receive the Centauro II ImageImage
The Brigade’s Tank battalion is equipped with 3 Ariete AMV main battle tank companies. The 4th company was recently disbanded putting the battalion to an estimated 42 tanks Image
After that, two mechanised infantry battalions equipped with Dardo IFVs provide the main infantry component of the brigade Image
Looking more closely at the manoeuvre support company is equipped with 120 mn mortar carriers that provide close indirect fire and also Dardo IFVs with ATGMs ImageImage
The manoeuvre regiments are supported by a field artillery regiment equipped with PzH-2000. The regt also has a dedicated company for target acquisition with MQ-11 drones and Counter-Battery Radars Image
Finally, the brigade has an engineer battalion with three sappers companies and one heavier company dedicated to more complex engineer operations like bridge laying Image
All regiments have a dedicated HQ and Services company. In addition to the Command platoon, they are usually comprised of a medical platoon, a transport and material platoon, an MP platoon and an EOD platoon Image
End of thread + cool photo of Drado IFVs

ORBAT of the French SGTIA deployed for the mission Lynx in Estonia between March and August 2023. This company-sized element is one of France’s contributions to the NATO eFP/eVA missions 🧵⬇️ #ORBATboys Image
1. I have made previous infographics on GTIA which are ad-hoc battalion task forces created for specific missions with the units available at one point in time. The SGTIA is very much the same idea but at the company level (like US Company Teams). Often SGTIAs make up a GTIA. ImageImage
2. The French Army recently published a video with detailed information on the composition of the SGTIA. The core of the element is centred around an infantry company (1st) from the 13e Demi brigade de la Légion étrangère.

Continuing on the French GTIAs. Today we are looking at the Armoured focused GTIA. #ARMY #frencharmy #Military
1. The Armour-focused GTIA is constituted of a core of 1 HQ + 3 Tank Companies or 2 Wheeled gun system companies, usually taken from the same regiment.
2. Additional complements that come in the form of infantry companies, recon and artillery are then directly integrated at the battalion level and additional engineer units are also added

Continuing on the GTIA series. Here is the Infantry-focused GTIA. This infographic is separated into 4 parts: The formation process, weapons and their effective range, the textbook/ideal infantry-focused GTIA and one concrete example taken from Serval Brigade. A 🧵 Image
1. The Infantry-focused GTIA is constituted of a core of 1 HQ + 3 Infantry Companies usually taken from the same infantry regiment Image
2. Additional infantry complements that come in the form of weapon companies, recon and artillery are then directly integrated at the battalion level or within core companies to create SGTIA (equivalent to US company teams) Image

ORBAT on PLAMC Brigade and its evolution pre/post-2017 reform
#PLA #China #PLAMC #Marines #Taiwan Image
1.In 2017, the PLA launched a wave of expansion and reform for its Marine Corps. The aim is to transform the PLAMC into an all-domain operation capable force able to deploy on short notice and maintain a high level of readiness Image
2.The reforms are not made with only the Taiwan invasion scenario in mind but also China’s overseas interest. The PLAMC would play a dual role of securing China’s national interests abroad and assisting the PLAA’s amphibious forces in a cross-strait invasion Image

ORBAT of British Land Forces TF during the Falklands War. The sudden invasion of the Falkland Islands by Argentinian Troops on the 2nd of April 1982 sparked an undeclared war with the United Kingdom. A 🧵
@EngageStrategy1 @LawDavF @battle_order @WarDiaryF82 #RoyalNavy Image
1. The British Government quickly created a Taskforce to retake the Falklands by force if diplomatic methods failed. The TF needed to travel 13,000 km and transport enough men, equipment, and supplies for an amphibious landing Image
2. The Land Forces were made up of two non-mechanised infantry brigades: 3 Commando Brigade and 5 Infantry Brigade. 3 Commando was constituted of x3 Royal Marine Commando battalions and x2 Parachute battalions. Together they made up the bulk of the infantry force of the brigade Image
