good morning from unceded Darug lands☀️today on #Insiders are Guardian politics editor Katharine Murphy, 9fax (smh and Age) CPG economics corro Shane Wright and 9fax (AFR) corro Jacob Greber. The interview is with shadow treasurer Angus Taylor.
opening spiel: first “Labor” budget in nine years. Tuff times for voters, little “relief” says Speers. #Insiders
the media fave frame, broken promises. Labor campaigned on cost of living, says Speers, and the prime minister has not shut the wallet completely (?) having announced billions in spending this week #Insiders
the montage is a mash up of floods and the October budget. Highlights include what Dutton says, what Ley thinks, Angus fucking Taylor on spending - his family has trousered tens of millions of public dollars - and Probyn. #Insiders
#MakingNews starts with PPL, which Speers calls “taxpayer funded paid parental leave”. A story on Ley and “women” in the Liberal Party (they mean misogyny). The tory clown show in the UK. #Insiders
Soeers then editorialises that it is going to be a big week for the government with a slip of the tongue - it has been a big week, he says, meaning for journos working in shaping budget coverage. #Insiders
panel. Starting with Wright, who says inflation is top of mind. It peaks at over 7% at the end of this year and the RBA will raise rates “London to a brick” on “Melbourne cup day”. #Insiders
but will wages keep up, asks Speers. Clip of Chalmers setting out inflation pressure points and timeline. It will peak around the next election, according to political journalists. They will have “a story telling job” about cost of living, says Murphy. #Insiders
still on the future. Chalmers is doing two budgets this financial year, says Murphy, and has to set where we are going in the real world (?) Wright says the budget is framed by inflation for the first time in a generation #Insiders
the treasurer does not want to be blamed for inflation, we all agree, with no clue for viewers as to who will set any treasurer-blaming narrative. #Insiders
“savings in discretionary grants” is a polite way to refer to rampant Morrison government spending in targeted seats. Wright speculated about “cost cutting” lol I bought the SAVINGS are from not giving free money to EY. #Insiders
investing in their priorities, down payments in “working families” the revolution [on renewable energy] has to happen in ten years , says Murphy. #Insiders
Speers goes to rich people Morrison tax policy, his happy place. Greber says “that debate will invariably come back” - journalistic voice from nowhere prize, Jake. #Insiders
clip of Chalmers on structural issues to segue to Angus well done Taylor. Does he accept the budget is in structural deficit? The budget is in a strong position, an enviable starting point, says well done🤡 #Insiders
we don’t want a toxic industrial relationship environment, says bloke whose political party creates casualised and precarious gig economy labour markets because they hate the low income people who clean their houses. #Insiders
you about a structural deficit by not spending too much, says Taylor. His party wants to see a responsible budget and if they do they will support it, he says🎈#Insiders
Taylor says the Melbourne rail project does not make sense, unlike, say, a regional grant for a pool in North Sydney. Taylor says he went for a bike ride and regional areas like getting grants [paraphrased] #Insiders
Speers calls the spending of public money in seats targeted by Coalition election priorities “pork barrelling” and Taylor calls it “investment in regional infrastructure”. #Insiders
tax cuts? Taylor says inflation is coming back into the RBA target range at the time the tax cuts will “start flowing” and then lies about what has laughably been called trickle down economics, which capitalism can not produce (capitalism creates inequality). #Insiders
changes to PPL? Taylor says it will benefit “females who are primary breadwinners” and “female participation” and “productivity”. No word on babies, or their parents. #Insiders
gas. God. The steaming flow of nonsense here is more than I can keep up with💨💨#Insiders
how much tax are gas corporations paying? We will see that when they put in their tax returns, says Taylor. Over the next little while. Speers persists. How much tho? Taylor says Bowen does not take an interest in gas. #Insiders
a Tas project I am not in. Despatchable clean power, apparently, that Taylor questions on the basis of public money. He says private investment should not be a drama [paraphrased] what about Snowy 2.0 tho says Speers. You started it, he says. #Insiders
Truss. The ideologically driven plan to cut taxes went down like a lead balloon, says Speers. A huge expenditure on energy will go down badly, deflects Taylor. But TAX CUTS? says Speers in disbelief. Dissemble, nonsense. #Insiders
and the Liberal Party target of 50% women? NOT A QUOTA says Taylor. He supports “working on” recruiting more women. #Insiders
how’s about this 50% women thing then? asks Speers. He should clarify it is a target not a quota. Well quotas work and targets don’t, says Murphy. It’s not complex for the Liberal Party to look like rest of the population, she says. #Insiders
on the inflation rate when Morrison tax cuts are due to kick in, Wright says the future lower inflation rate cited by Taylor is a forecast not a projection? Is that what he said? Astrology for white dudes either way #Insiders
clip of Albanese in high vis on the Tas energy project announcement. Greber says wind is part of the business model to make the renewables project work. Some moaning about private sector investment being “crowded out” by public spending lol business has had decades. #Insiders
he wants to move on to Lidia Thorpe, says Speers, who attributes her resignation from deputy senate leader to Probyn. Clip of Bandt talking down to Senator Thorpe. #Insiders
“there is a lot of focus around this” says Murphy. She and Speers say Bandt has articulated the problem. Greber says the Greens are “brutal” when it comes to standards haha brutal to who? Where are the bodies? #Insiders
what is the feeling inside the Greens? This speculation is grotesque. Murphy says Hanson Young has pointedly committed to campaigning Yes on the Voice. More paternalistic bits and bobs. The whiteness is intense. #Insiders
moving on, to the “decision” to not move our embassy in Tel Aviv. Murphy offers the Guardian tick tick timeline on how they broke the “story” of government web copy adjusted to align with government policy. #Insiders
speers trots out the “way it was done” line that journos have been reciting all week to rationalise leveraging clicks from government web copy. No mention of Palestinian perspectives, as usual. #Insiders
cross to a UK Sunday show presenter, Laura Knuessberg? I think? On “the Liz Truss train wreck” as Speers calls it. Laura runs us through the known knowns (Penny, Sunak, Bojo). The David Speers show. #Insiders
Johnson has celebrity and Jack of seriousness, says Laura. Clip of Boris in the harness waving flags. If the vote gets to the members, bets would be on Johnson “taking the crow, she says, bizarrely, given the role of the actual “crown”. #Insiders
9-14% of tories say they will not vote tory again, says Wright, with no lying (“shy”) tory caveat. Murphy says with Brexit the tories became a post truth party (this means pathological liars, now exposed because media can not maintain past levels of mass delusion). #Insiders
#TalkingPictures is up. Antionette is a back to you David laydee.
#FinalObservations 1 is Greber saying it is a big week for Dutton with his budget reply duties. “Albanese used it a couple of years ago” to set himself up” says Greber, lazily. #Insiders
I missed the others. Such a dull program. I can barely be arsed anymore tbh. The outtake is that itv dude on the total “abject chaos” in the British tory party. He is very good. #Insiders
this has been another edition of watching #Insiders so you don’t have to👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼

this is so funny to me.
speaking of a massive tell. A tell to what? To which high follow accounts are self-styled white male “experts” writing about silos and such for murdoch and their dwindling subscription audience (who are not on twitter but are on fb to keep up with the grandkids, natch).
there is another side to validating/promoting his blase attitude to errors of fact. The fuckup-shrug is a form of impunity only available to his demographic. Men like van Onselen use institutional power to falsely universalise personal experience of privilege that only they have.

good morning☀️this Sunday on #Insiders are Guardian Aus editor Lenore Taylor, ABC newsreader Dan Bourchier and 9fax (AFR) chief political corro Phil Coorey. The interview is with Transport and Infrastructure Minister Catherine King.
opening spiel: the Treasurer’s expectation management. Speers reports the extension of PPL with the usual gallery frame: where will the money come from? Where does he think? Same place as submarine money, David. #Insiders
infrastructure announcements also on way, says Speers, who will interview the infrastructure minister today. The montage is a kind of pre-budget global economy mash up. Ukraine, US recession, coalition politicians whining, one-dimensional editorialising by Probyn. #Insiders

revealing case study in language usage here. Words like consequences, intention, and entitlement are weaponised by propertied whiteness to rationalise* supreme* disregard for everyone else and for the planet.
rationalise: the codification of aggressive greed (per Smith, free market theory, Mill, and liberalism) as logical and natural.
supreme: hierarchy of humanity created by white males with themselves at the top, fortified by armed violence.
re “rational” and Smith, I am talking about the universalisation of aggressive greed as “rational self-interest” and ridiculously illogical cartesian binaries - like the mind can be disaggregated from the body lol - crystallised by “free market” theory.

when even carceral feminists oppose your dogs breakfast campaign strategy masquerading as caring about DV victims

abc.net.au/news/2022-10-1…
past time white women stopped promoting and enabling expansion of police violence and the carceral state.
no, it is not. This bill expands police powers. The community can learn all sorts of things in all sorts of timeframes; and DV victims are supported by friends, family, neighbours, workmates, every single day. This issue here is POLICE. Image

it is tax. He said tax. They know from experience that Liberal Party comms strategists can label literally anything Labor does as a tax and media will pick it up and endlessly shout tax tax tax tax, regardless of policy merits or who is in government.
lmaoooo ABC radio flagship headline statement why Labor’s policy is not a burp tax. These people learn nothing, by choice. Tell us more about the carbon tax death tax stage three tax cuts burp tax, mate.
the National Party has slammed… Barnaby Joyce believes… actual ABC radio “report” of a federal government climate mitigation policy. Beyond help.
