Latest for @dwnews: "This outcome means in the next five years, there will not only be a lack of a checks-and-balances mechanism in the party, but it will also become much more difficult for different opinions to emerge," said Hsin-Hsien Wang. #XiJingpingdw.com/en/chinas-xi-s…
He told DW that Xi's reappointment and his picks for the Politburo shows that "political loyalty is very important."
@ChongJaIan said Xi's "wolf-warrior diplomacy will likely continue and there is a chance that it can get supercharged."
"The question will be how democratic states around the world decide to respond to the increased toughness," he said, adding that there would be more potential for friction.

A survey has found that #China's reputation has deteriorated rapidly over the last four years, particularly in the west, and a large share of global opinion would back some form of international help for #Taiwan if Beijing tries to take the island by force.theguardian.com/world/2022/oct…
"The YouGov-Cambridge Globalism Project also found that while sentiment towards China was significantly more favourable in other parts of the world than it was in the west, respondents in 20 of the 25 countries surveyed prefer the US as reigning superpower."
"The survey revealed a dramatic decline in China’s global standing since it was first run in 2019, with the percentage of respondents saying they felt China played a positive role in the world falling by as much as half in some countries."
Some analysis from experts about the new leadership in #China under Xi Jinping's third term:
Taiwanese expert Wang Hsin-Hsien: "This is a sweeping victory for Xi Jinping and his allies. The result shows that personnel reshuffling is no longer bound by any precedence ...
... or existing rules in the Chinese Communist Party. All members of the Politburo are officials groomed by Xi Jinping and this outcome proves that political loyalty is very important."
"This outcome means in the next five years, there will not only be a lack of a checks-and-balances mechanism in the party, but it will also become much more difficult for different opinions to emerge.
That's the conclusion of this press event and the week-long Party Congress has been concluded. #China is now into the third five-year rule under Xi Jinping, with the top leadership fully stacked with his loyalists.
This is a new look at #China's decision-making body and a new form of leadership under one strong man's control.
One thing very obvious and clear is that Xi Jinping has now re-written the rules that govern the party in many ways. There's no more predictable rules for succession, as this Party Congress shows that who ascends to the top leadership body is largely based on his personal will.
Here we go, live from a moving high speed rail train in #Taiwan:
Led by Xi Jinping, officially in his third term, the new Politburo Standing Committee is made up of his loyalists, including Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi.
"I was re-elected as the general secretary of the CPC's central committee," Xi Jinping said.
“The Justice Department has required lobbyists for Hikvision, a leading Chinese surveillance equipment company, to register as foreign agents, Axios has learned.”
“The move comes amid a broader federal crackdown on Chinese industries deemed potential U.S. national security threats. The push is now reaching D.C. representatives for the world's largest manufacturer of video surveillance equipment.”
“Hikvision's top lobbying firm, Sidley Austin, registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act last week for its work on the company's behalf.”
By @BeijingPalmer: " The first possibility is that it was a health crisis. But it’s hard to see what condition could cause both an urgent need to remove him with cameras rolling and his deep reluctance to go." #Chinaforeignpolicy.com/2022/10/22/chi…
"One possibility is that there was an unexpected COVID-19 diagnosis of which he was unaware. But that would mean a PCR test was processed just at the wrong moment—coming up positive when the rapid tests administered to ...
... everyone who comes near the leadership failed to catch anything."
