BREAKING: We just filed our amicus brief with SCOTUS in #MoorevHarper. We found hundreds of election laws and policies that would be vulnerable if the independent state legislature theory becomes law. They cover every aspect of voting, from registration to ballot counting.
If #SCOTUS adopts this baseless theory, it would upend federal elections by threatening:

* more than 170 state constitutional provisions
* more than 650 state laws
* 100s of state court decisions
* 1000s of rules and regulations

Today in Texas, the @BrennanCenter filed for a preliminary injunction so that election officials will again be allowed to advise voters to apply for mail ballots. Officials are banned from doing so under the state's restrictive voting law S.B. 1. /1
Voting by mail is perfectly legal in Texas, yet S.B. 1 forbids election officials from encouraging voters to apply for mail ballots. The punishment? Minimum of 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $10,000. /2
“S.B. 1 makes it a crime for me to do a critical part of my job, and it hurts the most vulnerable voters,” said Harris County Elections Administrator Isabel Longoria (@LongoriaTx). Longoria is the top election official in the county. /3
