2/ $BTC is the OG of it all, the digital counterbalance to central bank & government excess, its 21M units represent a liquidity mirror for society.
3/ $ATOM sits @ the center of the thin pieces, loosely joined crypto movement, pulling together zones of sovereignty and infinite customization.
4/ $SOL is composable consensus near the speed of light, it's the most pragmatic and enterprising of the four, while still retaining its soul.
5/ $ETH represents all the optimism and idealism that red-pilled many a crypto believer & builder, and offers the most risk-minimized, Internet-native yield available.
Staking it is the metaverse's T-bill.
6/ Naturally, Placeholder holds all 4 -- all investments can be seen here: placeholder.vc

2/ EVM was of course #Ethereum first, but then in 2018-2020 a number of monolithic layer-1s launched that spread the EVM's reach.
Because these layer-1s combined data availability + settlement + execution, they were major lifts.
3/ With teams like @EclipseFND@Nitro_Labs and more, we are now seeing the SVM spread as an *execution environment* with flexibility around where settlement + data availability occurs.
A much lighter lift, allowing the SVM to spread like wildfire as a complement to the EVM.
If you listened to a correct bear at the right time, they may have saved you a 80-90% drop in crypto portfolio value. From current levels, even with a 50% drop, they’ll save you 5-10% from ATH. But now everyone’s a bear 😂
Took a more pragmatic approach to fundraising & building a network of value than its predecessor, which broke existing social rules within crypto that angered the predecessor 🧵
Parts of me pine for the old social rules, other parts of me recognize that ideology dilutes with mainstreaming.
Blank slate of state was a call to action to consider the social norms we’re putting in place, as I’ve watched them shift over crypto’s years: unchainedpodcast.com/chris-burniske…
If we are less humane online, and culture is the combination of our behaviors, then how do we avoid less humane cultures as we spend more time online?
Applies to Web2, Web3, WebX…
The solution likely comes from each of us practicing self-restraint, behaving more ethically online, perhaps strengthened by offline relationships, but directionally the opposite seems to be happening.
The faster things go the less time people have for offline time together, and so the humanity that makes us human shrinks…
1/ Net positive for Solana—wash out the opportunistic builders and investors, leave what’s core & special. Ethereum had to go through a similar washout after the ICO frenzy of ‘17.
2/ Teams like @orca_so showcase there are earnest builders in Solana, where not only is the product top notch, but the supply distribution is more egalitarian than the normative standard of “40% to insiders” that many DeFi teams set within Ethereum: orca.so/token
3/ Solana is building a system to achieve consensus near the speed of light - that system can be used for lightness or darkness.
It’ll be up to all those involved to discuss & decide what ethical norms are endorsed in that pursuit.
