Congratulations to the team behind Black Panther 2, #WakandaForever
I hope the premier is fabulous and you get to soak up the adulation for your years of hard work.
This is an exciting time for Marvel, Disney, and the film exhibitors (theaters).
A lot of folks are about to have their talents shared with the world next month and I’m so happy for you.
Endless hours designing lighting, clothing, and makeup. Choreography, blocking, and building sets.
Writing and rewriting and rewriting.
The long promotional campaign led by the brilliant @asadayaz … a man who has my immense respect and adulation.
And thousands of other artists, craftsmen, actors, stunt techs, and executives that work together to make this happen.
It’s an important film for Marvel, as it ends phase 4.
It’s a huge film for communities of color. To once again see themselves represented in this world.
The addition of @rihanna elevates the importance of this film in this moment.
The film’s director, Ryan Coogler, is this generation’s master filmmaker.
Seeing anything that he creates is a blessing.
The box office will be huge and that will help the struggling theater chains.
That’s huge for them and Wakanda Forecer will be followed closely by Avatar 2: The Way of Water.
This could be the cosmic jolt the industry needs to revive itself.
So happy for everyone involved.
The midterm elections are on November 8th and they look more and more likely that Republicans will flip the House and maybe the Senate.
Two days later Wakanda Forever comes out and a lot of us will need this film as comfort.

When fans complain about everything, they risk their legitimate complaints getting lost in the noise. That’s on them.
Also, Disney is monitoring their own guest satisfaction research and spending patterns, not Twitter.
As Pew Research found last year, only 28% of Americans even use Twitter and of that small fraction, 25% of them post 97% of the content.
It’s a tiny tiny slice of folks who have a lot of free time and grievances, boosted by bloggers seeking clout.
The vast majority of guests who represent the vast majority of spending do not engage in this community.
To judge consumer sentiment based on twitter, blogs, and comment sections is a fool’s errand.
These guests are captured by research firms and their spending is monitored.
🧵Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s interview with the Wall Street Journal was fascinating.
The enormous balancing act for the CEO of the largest media company in the history of the world is pretty mind blowing.
He is clearly much more confident now and has a clear vision.

I’m a sucker for family, so a Chapek’s sweet comments about his wife was a highlight for me.
I always like a powerful man admitting their wife is the real boss (IE Obama, Biden, etc).
2/21
Chapek admitting that Florida really emphasized that cast members are truly the most important constituent to protect was refreshing.
While he states they always knew that, you can tell that the incident drove that point home.

So basically Disney WILL have the three biggest movies over the next 4 months…
- Black Panther 2 “Wakanda Forever”
- Avatar 2 “The Way of Water”
- “Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania”
Not to mention the biggest movies of the rest of next year…
- Guardians of the Galaxy 3
- The Marvels
- The Little Mermaid
- Indiana Jones 5
And, of course, their animated films lined up that always have the potential of catching fire and getting close to a billion…
- Strange World
- Elemental
- Wish
Disneyland's price increase is due to (1) the current demand for the parks, (2) their desire to better manage crowd levels, (3) Disney's need to fund their growing DTC division, (4) and their extensive internal research about guest's ability and willingness to pay.
1/22
For more than a decade the online fandom (and many Bots) have proclaimed the death of Disney's theme park division due to price hikes. Obviously none of these predictions have come true, in fact, the opposite has happened.
With each increase, demand grows.
2/22
There is obviously a cap to this and that what Disney is trying to find. It's the same thing every successful business needs to find: "what's the highest price I can charge for my product while still maintaining the level of traffic I desire."

Thread 🧵 Disney Parks D23 Presentation
Disney did not announce many definitive new expansions or rides, with opening dates and details.
According to DisTwitter (and the "news" sites that create the narratives) this is due to some personal failings of Chapek or D'Amaro.
1/25
Nasty accusations about gutting the Parks, not caring about Disney, being lazy, cheap, etc. All personal attacks that create a sense of victimhood for the fandom.
"THEY are evil, THEY hurt ME" And so on.
But, what if the reason was actually based on logic and sound reason?
2/25
The problem with so-called Disney Parks news sources is that they are just theme park fans who don't understand business and have no interest (or ability) to look at Disney as The Walt Disney Company, rather than simply "Walt Disney World" and "Disneyland."
3/25
🧵 An ITSY BITSY TEENY TINY (but loud) minority on Twitter want Disney to spend their money, real estate, man power, and creativity on rides not based on movies or series.
The overwhelming VAST majority (nearly all) guests visiting the parks want Coco, Frozen, and Avengers.
1/5
That doesn’t mean that the less than a fraction of a fraction of folks wanting non-IP rides shouldn’t b**** and moan on Twitter. Do your thing! Rock the CAPS LOCK. Work those emojis ‼️❌🤬 Hashtag all day!!
But it doesn’t change the facts.
2/5
Rides are rare at these parks, so a lot of thought gets put into what to do and where. The fans who pay huge prices to visit with their families, bachelorette party, or bday crew, want Tiana, Star Wars, Avatar, and Guardians.
