MEV as a % of Blockspace (MEV / Non-vote Txns) currently hovering around 6-9%

Saw peak MEV as % for 2022 on May 12 = 27% MEV of Blockspace

Though most of MEV comes from failed txn attempts if we just look at successful MEV txns:

> There are significantly more Arbs than Liquidations by multiple factors
(i.e. 6/29: 146k Arbs vs 2,308 liquidations)

With all the PVP & Activist M&A activity in the Crypto space thought it would be good to go review some M&A Defense strategies.

Though these exist for traditional Finance - we may see some of these strategies come into play in Crypto - or new strategies develop...

1/ Token Repurchases:
Token repurchases are purchases for a company or protocol's tokens done by its existing holders or key stakeholders. [Could be also in the form of DAOs burning their tokens]

2/ Poison pill - this is a defense strategy used by a target protocol to prevent a hostile takeover. This involves allowing existing token holders the right to purchase additional equity/tokens at a discounts which effectively dilutes the ownership interest of the acquiring party

Today's market consists of predominantly two players: Miners and MEV Searchers.

Some of the greatest innovation has come from Flashbots.net which has been trying to "democratize" MEV

We next explore the economic market structures in place today which includes taking a look at:

1. Oligopolies
2. Monopolistic Competition
3. Perfect Competition

Although theoretical - with PoS we may see a theoretical Perfectly Competitive MEV market start to form.

Some observations:

1. You either create the Meta or you are part of the Meta. Just make sure you understand which category you are in.

2. Metas & Narratives are getting shorter and shorter spanning from quarterly narratives → monthly narratives → daily narratives. It is critical to understand what narrative cycle you are in, especially if you are trading the meta narratives.
