Today, the @CWAUnion attempted to provide cupcakes to our store (union shop) for our workers as a gift. These were turned away by our management team after continued insistence, by the 6016 VP, that this not be done while citing the company's own policy regarding gifts of food.
Many of us with tenure at the Penn Square Apple store are aware that the company's stance on gifts to employees that are specifically perishable by nature is that they are to be brought to the break room for ALL employees to collectively enjoy.
We have even historically wandered outside of policy and if the gift of food from a customer was intended for a specific employee, our management team has held them in the manager's office until said employee could guarantee they were the first to get to enjoy said gift.
We have also been informed that we are not allowed to pass out weingarten cards at work while on company time with the company citing their "regularly enforced" solicitation and distribution policy, despite this being demonstrably false.
Employees have regularly been permitted to talk about their own small businesses at work, and in some instances even use internal messaging systems as a means to solicit donations for good causes,
Furthermore after we publicly petitioned in September at no point were we told we were unable to solicit support for the union on company time. In fact, we were specifically told we WERE able to discuss union related topics at work yet another contradiction to regular enforcement
This, in addition to the removal of the daily question board, that employees were able to answer with personalized sticky notes, shortly after employees began answering with pro-union messaging we believe is a clear pattern of biased behavior against union activity.
We are incredibly disappointed that the previous position of our management team that they would respect the outcome of the election is not proving to be consistent with their actions.
After our overwhelming election victory, we ceased wearing wrist bands and have chosen to not yet exercise our legally protected right to wear CWA branded apparel out of respect to those who are still working through the transition into a union shop and what it means for them.
We have very specifically avoided a heavy handed approach to exercising the rights guaranteed by forming a union in order to allow management as much flexibility as possible to run the day to day operations of the business without interference as this has always been our goal.
It is a NECESSITY in order to create a cooperative relationship with the company that benefits both employer AND employee. As such, we look forward to the company's shift to a more cooperative approach in all future matters. Thank you. #1u #LaborOmniaVincit
