/16 I said 10 words inside of the Supreme Court and got locked up for 30 hours. A thread. #SCOTUS #Dobbs #Roevember #Roevemberishere

/16 Last night I was released from federal custody after spending 30 hours in jail. My crime?
Nonviolently disrupting the Supreme Court to denounce Dobbs and call on women to vote to restore choice.
/16 Shortly after the court started its session on the morning of November 2, I stood and shouted: “I rise respectfully to denounce Dobbs! Women of America –– VOTE!” Two other brave women stood after me and made their own, similar statements. We were immediately detained.
/16 For the next 30 hours, we were held in 4 different jail facilities. During our overnight stay, 2 of us were kept together in a 4x6 bloodstained steel cell that resembled a dog kennel, in 90-degree temperatures, and denied food & water for long stretches of time
/16 Our only furniture was a “bunkbed” made of steel (no mattress), with a two-inch lip along the edge that prevented us from sitting down. Our 71-year-old friend, who is physically disabled, was held alone in another cell and was denied necessary medical care.
/16 As we were transported between jail facilities, we were held for long periods of time in a vehicle that felt like a coffin––almost fully dark, intensely hot, packed in shoulder-to-shoulder with other desperate prisoners with our hands cuffed behind our backs.
/16 The experience was more intense than I had imagined, but it makes me even more proud of our work. I have joined the long history of brave Americans who have engaged in peaceful civil disobedience in order to protest laws that are unjust, unethical, and immoral.
/16 This experience has reinforced even more that the state cannot be trusted to make decisions about our bodies – from forcing women to bear a child to holding prisoners in conditions that would be considered animal cruelty.
/16 I am deeply worried about the trajectory of our democracy – especially the removal of a federal law that protected the rights of ALL people to make healthcare decisions about their own bodies.
/16 As a result of the loss of Roe v. Wade, girls who have been raped (and are already experiencing severe trauma) are having trouble accessing the abortion access they desperately need.
/16 Women whose fetuses have died inside their bodies or who need an abortion to save their lives are having trouble finding the medical care they need. Women who have a miscarriage are in danger of prosecution.
/16 Without federal protection, it will get worse. Sen Graham has already introduced legislation to create a nationwide ban on abortion. And the most vulnerable among us – girls, poor women, abused women, women of color, and LGBTQ+ people – will be the ones hurt the most.
/16 I thank you all sincerely for the outpouring of love & support during this challenging time. @Alyssa_Milano, @TopherGrace, thank you for sharing. Together we can get our democracy back on track. Women of America – VOTE!
/16 How to Help. If you are interested in supporting me, there are several easy ways to get involved: 1. Amplify the message: The effects of our action will mean more if the message is spread widely. Please retweet.
/16 2. Donate to our legal fund: My action is being supported at a grassroots level. Please consider donating to the legal fund to pay our amazing lawyers who will be arguing my case. Every little bit helps. The donation link is: politics.raisethemoney.com/en/legalsuppor…
/16 3. Vote! November 8th is possibly the most important election in my lifetime. Please vote for candidates who have promised to protect access to safe access to abortion for all.
