An early season winter storm is expected within portions of the Dakotas into Minnesota between Thursday and Friday, likely to bring at least minor winter impacts. Impacts are expected to be mainly tied to travel conditions during this timeframe. #ndwx#mnwx
As of Sunday:
❄️ There is a 60% chance of minor winter impacts occurring anywhere within eastern North Dakota into northwest Minnesota, including impacts from accumulating snow, reduced visibility, and light icing. #ndwx#mnwx
❄️❄️ There is also a 30% chance of seeing major winter impacts within eastern North Dakota into northwest Minnesota, including impacts from heavy snow accumulation and possible blizzard conditions making for very difficult to impossible travel. #ndwx#mnwx
❄️❄️❄️ There remains some uncertainties in the track and evolution of this system leading to medium confidence at this time, but overall confidence has increased some since yesterday. Be sure to check the forecast regularly if traveling between Thu - Fri. #ndwx#mnwx

With the potential for snow squalls this evening, we wanted to go through what a snow squall is, what the impacts are, and what you can do when snow squalls are possible or occurring!
A THREAD:
1.) Snow squalls are intense bursts of snow and wind that onset rapidly. This leads to rapidly deteriorating road conditions and whiteout conditions, creating very dangerous travel. On top of that, flash freezes can sometimes occur, creating icy road conditions.
2.) A Snow Squall Warning is issued when these conditions will impact a major highway. For our area, this would include US Highway 2, Interstate 29, and Interstate 94, although others will qualify. When issued, a Wireless Emergency Alert will be sent to your phone warning you.
