In contrast to April, May has been very hot and dry but how hot and dry has it really been? To start this has been the 2nd warmest May on record in Fargo and the 4th warmest in Grand Forks since 1881 and 1893 respectively. 1/5
As far as records go we only set one between our three climate sites and that was on May 23 when Fargo hit 93, beating the old record of 91 set in 2006. Fargo did tie two record highs; one on the 11th with a reading of 84 and on the 31st with a reading of 93. 2/5

An early season winter storm is expected within portions of the Dakotas into Minnesota between Thursday and Friday, likely to bring at least minor winter impacts. Impacts are expected to be mainly tied to travel conditions during this timeframe. #ndwx#mnwx

With the potential for snow squalls this evening, we wanted to go through what a snow squall is, what the impacts are, and what you can do when snow squalls are possible or occurring!
A THREAD:
1.) Snow squalls are intense bursts of snow and wind that onset rapidly. This leads to rapidly deteriorating road conditions and whiteout conditions, creating very dangerous travel. On top of that, flash freezes can sometimes occur, creating icy road conditions.
