Spoiler free review of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It is everything it should be and everything fans want it to be. Director Ryan Coogler understands the genre, the audience, and the characters and as a result, the movie delivers on every level. 1/
Chadwick Boseman is honored appropriately and we take the journey with his family, friends, and to remember him while trying to find a way forward. 2/
Letiticia Write, Angela Bassett (who should be our Queen), Tenoch Huerta, Lupita N'yong'o, Danai Gurira, Mabel Cadena, Dominque Thorne, and Winston Duke.. matched each other's ability to carry every scene.
Tenoch as Namor delivers the kind of performance the MCU always needs and there's no way he won't be *thee next marvel star of stars.
The culture and civilization of Namor / N'amor is as striking as Wakanda and beautifully imagined -from origin to its modern iteration that rivals the land-based Wakanda.
The action is fantastic and the reasons make sense even if as viewers you don't want it to happen - this is unique to the genre but it not only works, but it takes us to uncomfortable and complex emotions because we want there to be other options.
The team also honors women who are actualized and fully in charge of who they are, what they do, and what the do not do. I think Wakanda in particular goes deep in this area - beyond wonderful warrior women, and into intellectual diplomats, counselors, parents, friends.
Watching it I felt tense, nervous, excited, angry, sad, resigned, and full. They deliver it all.
I won't speak for Indigenous Peoples on the depiction of Namor & his people, but I believe viewers will feel similar emotions to how Black people felt seeing Wakanda & its civilization on screen. It resonates and my audience loved it and there was oh's and ah's as it was revealed
Go see it. It is wonderful and you will love it. From the pre-opening to the very end. If there are kids in your theatre they will be excited and make noise and that's pretty cool. There are big scenes and small and they connect when they should and how they should.
If you loved the first, you'll love this as much if not more because we get two dynamic cultures to dive into.
I may write another review after all the details are out and I've had a chance to process more of what it made me see, think, and feel.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ends Phase 4 and it is fitting to revisit the land, the people, and loves, loss, and future of the indefatigable Wakandans.
Go ahead of let the tears fall because they'll be real.
Chadwick would be proud. End.
Me in teenlet at Wakanda Forever. Me unsure where to look as always
Love hearing folk seeing it and enjoying it too. #WakandaForever

Thinking about the swift and universal condemnation by Black twitter in response to the tweet by Kyle Griffin. About why we responded to what many of his supporters say was poorly worded at best and inarticulate at worst. They say he is a good guy and in need of understanding.
That we, meaning Black folk, should extend him grace for the tweet. We saw strong democratic supporters ask that we extend understanding because he is "not problematic."
A full 30k people agreed with Kyle that "Democrats don't need Georgia now" -since the party has secured control of the Senate.
My quarterly NextDoor check in. 1. This lady says a dog attacked her dog and she grabbed the dog by the neck and held it for 40 minutes while screaming for help. Cops wouldn’t even help. 40 minutes. Okay. ..Next, a few select responses
Person uses dog attack choking dog for 40 minutes to go on about inconsiderate drivers in an entirely different neighborhood. No mention of dogs. But plenty of red light runners. Then the big finish: how will you feel when you kill somebody?!? 2
Next we go deep into why the Roman Empire fell. Nothing about attacking dogs or choking dogs for 40 minutes in Rome but hey, those whacks Romans were known for animal cruelty I guess. 3
I think Fred Flintstone might be a democrat but Barney’s is republican. Fred is a union guy. Barney is too but that one episode they lived together and Wilma made a cake & cut it unevenly and Barney’s greedy self took the large piece even though he was a guest. Definitely repub.
Gilligan’s island. Thurston, Lovie, & the captain- Maga. The Professor, Gilligan & Maryann - democrats. Ginger- probably Green Party.
Nancy Pelosi, Gretchen Whitmer, Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton - Speaker of the House, Governor, Vice President, former Senator/Presidential Candidate- it is painfully clear who republicans and right wing media, magas, & foreign conspirators fear and target.
We’ve seen it in every online community. They target women and girls- gamergate, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, revenge porn, grooming, trafficking
They say they’re “entitled” to sex so they get their candidates elected and they make laws ok’ing child brides, child r*ape, and forced pregnancy/birth while fighting against healthcare, abortion, testing r*pe kits- and ultimately exempting them from societal oversight
When Jack Johnson was heavyweight boxing champion then Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali, there was a term the media created to keep white sports fans interested in boxing which was then a top sport in world: The Great White Hope. They longed for a white man to restore order.
To be the best. To be the face of the sport. While the phrase isn’t as popular as it used to be the sentiment remains. From trump who followed President Obama as the most obvious- maga is another way to say great white hope- the sentiment permeates society.
From white athletes & entertainers, movies and tv- the idea of the great white hope - is also the same as “you will not replace us” the current white supremacy mantra.
We really need Florida to vote in massive numbers for Charlie Crist and Val Demings. What Ron DeSantis is doing is vile, racist, and reaches not very far back to the voter intimidation tactics targeting Black voters America is known for. Fk John Roberts to he-ll
I mean, what is the justice department for if they aren't protecting voter's rights? All those police are also complicit - they did not have to follow those orders, they are choosing to. "I was just following orders" stopped being acceptable since Nuremberg.
And it is unacceptable now. Police, election officials, polling folk are all equally complicit. In *other countries, those folk would be jailed following a change of political parties.
