NEW: Sen. @MichaelBennet (D) says he was surprised by his 12-pt margin of victory over @ODeaForColorado (R). Bennet told me he expected an 8-pt win. He pointed to Democrats closing the gap in populous red counties like Douglas and El Paso. #cosen#copolitics
If Bennet serves his entire third full term, he will become the longest serving US Senator from Colorado in a century. But Bennet said he has no desire to grow old in the Senate, as some of his colleagues have done.
Bennet said both he and Gov @jaredpolis (D) could be in the presidential conversation if Biden chooses not to run in 2024. "I think both of us could be in that conversation," Bennet said. "Because Colorado is such an interesting state politically for the country."
Bennet said Polis "has done an incredible job as Governor and he ran a great race for re-election." Bennet added, "I feel like I've done a good job and I feel like we ran a really good race so it'll be interesting to see what that discussion looks like."
We'll have my conversation with Senator Bennet about his landslide win, his future in the Senate, and the 2024 presidential race tonight on @nexton9news.

The Libertarian candidate being blamed for Republicans' loss in CO-8 didn't have a formal campaign yet he vastly outperformed Colorado's other Libertarian candidates. Also, he rocks. He's the soundman for a metal band. #copolitics
CO-8 Libertarian candidate Dan Ward says he campaigned solely through shows for his band, Driven By Turmoil. The band's song "Shut The F--- Up" became his campaign anthem as they asked listeners to vote against the establishment candidates.
Pollsters and political operatives with both parties weren't sure how Ward won 3.9% of the vote. Five other Libertarian candidates for Congress in Colorado averaged 1.9%. Each had more of a traditional campaign presence than Ward, who says he did not raise or spend any money.
UPDATE: Democrat Adam Frisch is poised to upset Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert in CO-3, based on a 9NEWS analysis of remaining ballots, which are largely in counties where Frisch holds strong leads. #copolitics
The Boebert-Frisch race is tied 50-50% but the bulk of ballots yet to be counted, per AP, are in Pitkin County (80% counted, currently Frisch +58, not a typo), Pueblo County (91.6% counted, currently Frisch +9.6), and Garfield County (90% counted, currently Frisch +13.6).
In Pueblo County alone, 9NEWS is told there are 6,000 uncounted ballots. Those ballots may not be counted tonight as election workers are given time to eat and rest.
NEW: A tearful @heidiganahl tells supporters: "I'm sorry we couldn't pull this off." Says Colorado "is slipping away from us." #cogov#copolitics
@heidiganahl "We're not going to give up the fight," Ganahl said. "We had to fight the media, the pundits, the stratgists, the dark money groups."
Ganahl thanks conservative talk radio for covering her message "when the mainstream media wouldn't." (Ganahl declined an in-depth interview and refused to debate Gov Polis on 9NEWS)
Waiting for @heidiganahl to speak at her closing rally. Event was slated to start at 6pm, doors opened at 5:45pm. #cogov
“We turn out, we kick Democrats’ ass!” Ganahl campaign manager Asa Dyer tells the crowd.
Ganahl has taken the stage, saying “If our kids are not OK, nothing is OK.” Ganahl tells the crowd the media are “out of touch” and “don’t understand the Colorado way of life.”
NEW: CO GOP Gov candidate @heidiganahl is echoing her earlier suggestions that Republicans must win by a lot to overcome Democratic election rigging. On Steve Bannon's WarRoom today, Ganahl said, "We need everyone to turn out big to overwhelm the system." #cogov#copolitics
Bannon's program today featured a parade of election deniers sounding similar themes about how to defeat Democratic election rigging. Ganahl was immediately followed by Mike Lindell, who said huge Republican turnout is "going to override these algorithms tomorrow."
Ganahl has made similar comments about Republicans needing huge turnout to overcome election rigging, telling supporters in Nov 2021: "We've got to have such a red tsunami, that there's no question, there's no fixing it." 9news.com/article/news/l…
Next Presents: The Race for Congress (Colorado's 7th Congressional District). State Sen @pettersen4co (D) and GOP challenger @AadlandforCO began their debate with a disagreement about whether the inflationary harm of government spending was worth the benefits. #copolitics
@pettersen4co@AadlandforCO@AadlandforCO said he would not support cuts to Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid - but would not rule out a debt ceiling standoff despite the risk to the economy. @pettersen4co said she'd favor raising the debt limit so high that these default-risking standoffs aren't routine.
@pettersen4co@AadlandforCO On Russia's invasion of Ukraine and US aid to the Ukrainians, @AadlandforCO said the US "has done nothing but escalate the problem." @pettersen4co said the prospect of ending aid to Ukraine "actually, really terrifying."
