The P-47 has been in the back of my mind for a while now. Why fortify that one road so hard? Is it 100% just strategical importance? Now we know it isnt.
From Kherson to Henichesk the rule of thumb seems to be along P-47: every 7-12km one large defensive structure.

In theory, they could build still a few 'pit stop defenses' before 'the new capital'.
For example, *so far* the last defense along P-47 in front of Novotroitske.

In Henichesk itself there is also activity seen from low-res satellites. For example, this old mil. airstrip with earthwalls has activity now, and apparently a roadblock has been erected at the entrance:

Closer to the city itself, where there is a school, holiday apartments, and a fire department (mostly state and business owned localities) and a private warehouse complex we can see something brewing.
Note. These timelapses are over 3 weeks old due to clouds.
RU command gave an order at the end of October for troops to dig defensive structures near any significant town village or road.
Kherson-Zaporizhzia. Only new trenches.
A moderate thread on the russian trench-craze, documented with low-res Sentinel-2 images taken 5.11.2022.
Let's start by looking at the first three ones. This timelapse covers three distinct trench complexes by the P-47 road (direction from north-west to south-east).
1. Kakhovs'kyi district, Khersonska, Ukraina
Three to four layers of trenches. Building started bit over a week ago.
A look to Chaikovs'ke (Crimea) 🇷🇺 military unit and it's training ground. Focus on activity over a period of time as well as what conclusions can be drawn from this.
Mini 🧵
As I'm using low-res Sentinel images, here is a higher quality apple maps image to give a picture.

The apple maps picture gives us an idea of what is there.
- Barracks for a whole unit
- Training grounds
- Storage halls and trucks
- Shooting grounds
The place has it's own google maps review page. Looks like they are/were Black Sea Fleet marines.
Now we know who is/was there and what is there, so let's check out the activity since July.
The shooting range is in good use, as well as the warehouses and truck parking spots. What doesn't seem to see so much use is the forested area where military drills are usually held.
Activity check to an earthwalled part of a military training ground in Kirovske Raion (Crimea). Multiple vehicles can be seen moving in and out for an extended period of time.
The earthwalled vehicle parking spot is part of an extended training ground which extends for quite a large area (approx 18km² freeform: 5.5km wide and 3.5km long).
2/
Another sign that the training ground is in active use is if we take a look to the sc. 'admin building' of the area. Vehicles and moved earth.
NEW: Vesoloye airbase has seen quite a transformation in past months, and apparently it has gone quite under the radar for the #OSINT community. Activity is now at all time high in years with repairing existing structures, building new and equipping the base.
🧵- Thread.

In a general timelapse of the base located at (45.57566, 34.28548) the transformation can clearly be seen. There are three zones that stick out quite clearly by the amount of moved earth:
- East: Circular form
- West: Old troop quarters
- North: Earthwalls

East:
Starting with the circilar structure. The circle varies roughly between 125-150m diameter. The building has been going for a few months now.Circles and half-moons are usual patterns for Anti-Air and Electronic Warfare formations.
