Here's how I got certified as a data analyst in 4 months without any prior computer science knowledge and completely free.

Step 1: Apply
I applied for the ALX-T and @udacity scholarship and I got it. The only reason why you haven't gotten it is because you haven't applied.

Step 2: Understand the road map
For me, this was step 4 but the sooner you do, the better. Understand exactly what it takes and decide to follow through. @jessica_xls took out time to create a road map here

Step 3: Schedule
When I started, I discovered that I wasn't showing up everyday and the passion I started with had dwindled. Being more intentional about the start and end times for my lessons helped a great deal.

Step 4: Join a community
I felt it would be better to do it silently but I was silently watching @Rita_tyna on Twitter and saw first hand what a community can do for you. If you want to discover who to follow on Twitter

Step 5: Accountability
Accountability was not so tricky for me. I had friends, amazing ones! I told 2- 4 of my close friends that this was what I was doing and we talked about it almost everyday. Tell someone who you talk to always and bring it up everytime you talk with them.

Step 6: Electricity
I had to seek help here because I didn't have light in my area and irrespective of how sexy my excuses were, I knew they wouldn't get me results. So I spent most of my time at a friend's house or a rented space. Do whatever it takes to show up everyday.

Step 7: Be active
Be active online (i recommend Twitter and LinkedIn), this points back to a community but I had to isolate it to show you how important it is. Post as much as you can on your process.. You may not have any likes but this gives you a sense of responsibility.

Step 8: Pray
I saved the best for last. I didnt have to do a lot of kabashing, all I did was ask for help. 'Holy Spirit, help me' and boom everything becomes a walk over. You'd be unwise to want to do it with just your strength.

I do not believe this thread is exhaustive... Others who have done it may have something to add, check for other useful comments.
