A few Chelsea fans calling for Graham Potter to be sacked, which is ridiculous. Chelsea are trying to move away from this kind of cutthroat approach. Potter is a long-term appointment who hasn’t had key players available or a transfer window at the club.
It takes time to implement a new style, culture and, perhaps most importantly for long-term success, recruitment model. The senior leadership team at Chelsea is still being built and are fixing many problems that pre-dated them.
Granted, some will call sacking Thomas Tuchel a problem of their own making, hence the lack of patience amongst a few with Potter. But the ownership group and Tuchel had strategic differences that proved untenable and started as early as pre-season.

The sanctions, & super-speed sale, created a period of instability impacting not just internal mood but setting back #CFC's window planning. That not only affected last summer but could influence January and next summer. Chelsea are behind rivals for Jude Bellingham, for example.
Meanwhile, Antonio Rudiger also hinted at the internal issues when he put his Chelsea exit down to "a period of uncertainty." It hasn't been an easy transition for Clearlake-Boehly and that's why a 100-day review of every aspect of the club was urgently needed.
Chelsea are building an ambitious model and there will be be teething problems, especially with the owners moving so fast since taking over. And yes, a model isn’t nearly as exciting (or to use a Potter word, "sexy") as a win. But the former leads to more of the latter over time.
From day one the ownership group also pledged to extend the contracts of Reece James (now done) and Mason Mount (work in progress) and modernise the club, including stadium redevelopment. A concrete roadmap is expected towards the second half of next year.
Chelsea also spent almost £300 million in their first window and upped their commitment and investment in the women’s team. They play Spurs at Stamford Bridge on November 20.
And the aim was always to revamp the board. Even during the bidding process, Boehly planned to be chair. He just couldn’t say it that early because Bruce Buck was such a key decision maker in the sale process.
So things look chaotic and #CFC are not playing with confidence. The injuries to James, Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana and N'Golo Kante don't help and Potter clearly has to find an identity and unity. But let's also not forget Chelsea's very future was in doubt just six months ago.
Flash forward six months and model will start to take shape. There's important incoming recruitment hires in 2023 and expect #CFC to ramp up efforts to find partner clubs. Still told Sochaux not fully off table. France seen as key country along with Belgium, Portugal and Brazil.
Within this context, Potter is seen as a fit for an exciting yet 'risk-reward' period of further upheaval. He was told at interview the goal was top four this season but also reassured, providing progress is made, he wouldn't be sacked if it wasn't achieved.
So what is progress? Ultimately, it's building a squad and style, having a successful few windows, tying down talents and providing pathways for new stars. Potter still has to win but he must also be given the time and tools to do so.
And one of the keys to all of this is an environment of debate with freedom to challenge... and even (believe it or not) fail at times. That's why the dynamic of how Potter and other senior hires work together is so important. It's also why Paul Winstanley has been chosen.
Success may not happen overnight but the 'hire and fire' approach of old won't help bring stability either since what the owners are trying to build doesn't work if they (and fans) aren't patient.
(End of rant)

A22, promoters of the European Super League, thought they had a one-on-one meeting with UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin. Instead 30+ executives turned up, including Javier Tebas and Nasser Al Khelaifi. Premier League, FIFPRO and FSA all represented...
Meeting termed” incredible” and lasted 2.5 hours. There was confusion because A22 claimed no affiliation with the previous ESL or any links with Juventus, Barcelona or Real. They were challenged by multiple stakeholders and refused to explain who is behind company or funding.
Stakeholders tell me A22 presented no new ideas. Fan groups present were very vocal and Khelaifi and Tebas and united in their criticism.

Important to note on #LFC, inviting offers is relatively common. It doesn’t guarantee an imminent sale. It does allow FSG to see who is out there in the market and adds a structure to any sale process if they proceed.
This allows #LFC to effectively gather and assess suitors with the weak pound potentially tempting US investors.
It’s clearly a strong sign FSG are open to a sale. But that doesn’t mean one will happen at anywhere near the same speed as Chelsea’s, which was atypical and unplanned.

Another brilliant win for Newcastle at Southampton. They are genuine Champions League contenders, especially when their 2022 form is considered rather than just 14 games this season. They are playing with style and swagger.
Howe marks his (almost) one-year anniversary as manager with 71 points from 41 games. Only Kevin Keegan took more from his first 41 matches. 23 calendar-year wins in the Premier League is also Newcastle's best return in 20 years.
What impressed me most was how clinical #NUFC were. Almiron showed composure for the opener & has seven goals in his last seven. Wood's finish was instinctive. Trippier's ball cut open Saints allowing Willock to score. & Bruno's fourth was so measured and accurate from distance.

To be clear on Chelsea and Ronaldo. Todd Boehly still sees the appeal of signing him, especially to the brand. He asked Thomas Tuchel multiple times to consider him. Tuchel was consistently dismissive & at times dismayed by how often Ronaldo's name was mentioned.
Nothing has changed or progressed since. Jorge Mendes has held no further talks with Chelsea on Ronaldo. Even the summer chat was largely exploratory. Boehly won't move for Ronaldo as a priority. That remains the midfield. And will still only do so with Graham Potter's blessing.
My understanding is Potter currently has other forwards in mind above Ronaldo in the pecking order. He likes Rafa Leao (a pre-existing target before his time) and Jonathan David and Ivan Toney are also on his radar.

Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan tells Radio Eight, PIF were offered 30% in another EPL club, believed to be Manchester United. "[#NUFC] wasn’t the first offer we got. We looked in Italy, France & the UK."

PIF did explore Inter whilst takeover stalled. And also Bordeaux.
YAR adds: "In the UK there was a team that approached us to take 30% of the ownership, providing we didn't interfere at all managing the club, for £700 million... then we bought Newcastle. We bought the whole team for £350 million instead of having 30% for £700 million.”
YAR also cites #CFC sale price as an example of potential growth. PIF already work with Chelsea's majority owner Clearlake: "Chelsea was sold for $3.5 billion. So, my potential now is to go from £350 million to at least $3.5bn.” No suggestion this is with a view to then selling.

Told both Chelsea and Arsenal interest in Dusan Vlahovic is not significant or, as one source put it, "active". Both clubs have looked at Vlahovic in the past and Arsenal pushed hard to sign him in January. Lots of clubs keeping tabs but Juve really don't want to sell.
Vlahovic has five Serie A goals in seven games but has cut a frustrated and isolated figure at times in games. Max Allegri has denied he's unhappy or there's any personal issues between manager and player. Those close to Vlahovic say he's not thinking about an imminent move away.
Juventus sources say they are no plans to sell Vlahovic mid-season and firmly deny they are preparing for a summer sale, too. But there are clubs monitoring the situation. PSG see a window of opportunity next summer if Juventus don't qualify for the Champions League.
