Sometimes, I feel like I should tweet 'relearn how to care' every day, but I don't want to be 'preachy' or boring. But that is the biggest thing we all need to do right now.
Relearn how to care = focus on #empathy
We need empathy to tackle the crises we're in, incl climate.
Capitalism drives empathy out of us from childhood. We are taught NOT to care for ourselves or others around us. We are disconnected from our humanity. Why? In order to be 'good little workers' or 'good soldiers' when we grow up. And vote against our best interests.
Reverse that.
We are the only species that creates destructive environments. Look where it's got us.
I don't know how else people reconnect with themselves? They have to choose to, or stay on the path to their (our!) destruction.
How do you inspire people to start caring for themselves again when they were taught not to?
I really like the #QuietQuitting movement. Approve 😊👍
tsk tsk tsk smh this is so sad. 'I don't matter me, I don't exist, my purpose is to make the rich richer. If I can't do that, I should hurry up out of everyone's way, I can't be burden to the rich, they only like to take money, not spend it'
^^ that's the challenge. How do we get that guy to care about himself again?
^^ crack that, we crack tackling climate change and any number of other crises, if not all
Told you. I'm telling you.
'oh little old me, I'm no one and deserve nothing. I lay down my life for King and country! I am expendable. Collateral damage. I am proud, PROUD I say! This is my purpose, to be of service to the rich, my lords and masters, my betters. Right I'm just off to shorten my life 😊👍'
'I have no identity. Anyone got a flag handy? Ah yes, let's bling it up! Got my identity, the flag, got the text 'lest we forget' and poppy, remind me the moment I serve my purpose, I should pop off. And bling cos shiny. Right! Where do I vote Tory?! 😊👍'
That's the programming that needs to go. How do we challenge it?
I think there's a reason #CivilServiceStrikes are not across all media. Might give people ideas like they matter or something! And we can't have that, can we? 😱
The trauma wound that needs to heal is ABANDONMENT.
Capitalism is so extreme, people are first abandoned by parents, then they're taught to abandon themselves at school. They grow up believing they're on their own and they don't matter. Alienated, isolated, no social bonds.
So relearning how to care will be *extremely* painful, if it goes so deep and it's never occurred to them before.
Maybe crises are forcing them to consider it? If there's no money for energy or food, they're forced to consider their survival. That will trigger awakening.
