Therapist Tip 👉🏻The Power of 'NO': the word "no" is a 'boundary'. It is a word that establishes or defines the space between you & someone else. It demands respect & is supposed to be learnt learnt through childhood development. It is a universal cue that people use #boundaries
to let others know that you are not OK about something. Boundaries are designed to keep you safe &/or establish ground rules for the relationship. One of the earliest indicators of #RedFlags in toxic people/relationships is a lack of Respect/empathy for the word "no" #SafetyFirst
This lack of respect is an 'indicator' that someone has a character/personality problem &/or flaw. If a person in your life refuses to listen or respect your "no", you may need help because you now have a 'relational' problem

Have we failed in bringing up.our ‘modern’ kids?

A very distressed neighbour shared that he had driven home after a long day at work. As he entered, he saw his wife in bed with fever. She had laid out his dinner on a tray.

1
Everything was there just as he wanted it. The dal, vegetables, salad, green chutney, papad and pickles… ”How caring,” he thought,
“Even when she is unwell, she finds the strength to do everything for me.”

As he sat down to eat, he realised that something was missing.

2
He looked up at his grown up daughter, who was watching TV and said,

Beta (child), can you get me my medicine and a glass of water, please?

She rolled up her eyeballs to show her displeasure at being disturbed, but did the favour nevertheless.

To celebrate #JBIMethodologyMonth, we have developed a #Tweetorial to share our thoughts on how to drive momentum for evidence-based healthcare so that it becomes embedded in the fibre and fabric of every organisation. (1/11) @JBIEBHC
Since its emergence in the 1990’s, #EBHC has made great strides in locating, synthesising, summarising, and disseminating evidence- but sustainable mechanisms for getting trustworthy evidence into policy and practice continues to be less well understood. (2/11)
The concept of a “flywheel effect” has been adopted in management fields to demonstrate how change in organisations or practices rarely happens in one fell swoop; rather, sustainable change requires energy and persistent effort. (3/11)

Recently I was honoured to give my talk, "The Important of ... Empathy (in #chaosengineering)" to the wonderful audience at @chaoscarnivalio. I decided to make the talk a ... talk, rather than a slideshow, and I promised I'd share the major points ... so here they are, a thread.
I started with a confession, that the success of the #chaosengineering initiative in your company has less to do with the tools you pick than you may realise... And as the co-founder of the @chaostoolkit, that's quite the hard confession to make!
What helps your #chaosengineering succeed isn't just the tools, it isn't the types of failure you can inject, it isn't even how #cloudnative, or not, your system is, or how wonderful your #observability is set up ...

#Narcissism thread 🧵 15 (more) questions to ask yourself if you are questioning whether someone is a #narcissist
1. Do they devalue, diminish, demonise or harshly judge you or act as the righteous ‘authority’ figure with you regardless of their age, status or employment? 🚩
Are they #superior? For e.g. A non lawyer preaching to a lawyer about law. 2. Are they #defensive? Do they seem only interested in trying to prove that they are right & you are wrong, in a defensive mode? 🚩They are #competitive not co-operative. Co-operation is a must #healthy
3. Do they demand #attention from you? For e.g., insisting on having the conversation when it’s convenient for them only &/or use emotional #manipulation to ensure conversation happens on ‘their’ terms? They may not answer the question, go off topic, deflect, defensive, accuse 🚩

1. #Narcissism Thread: What is the quickest way to tell if someone is a #narcissist? 🚩Raise a concern with them. Hands down this works Every. Single. Time. #Narcissists are unable to manage conflict. By conflict, I mean be cooperative & problem solve concerns or disagreements
2. I mean being held accountable or addressing a concern with the genuine interest in resolving it. Resolving issues are important to healthy relationships, #trust boundaries & safety. When issues remain unresolved between #Psychology #abused
3. Couples, family members, groups, organisations, it leads to #resentment, #anger & #contempt. This is why: Say you raise an issue with your partner that’s of a concern to you. Your partner disagrees 🚩 & it doesn’t seem like she is listening to you. 🚩You keep trying to express

Why every #leader needs a customer service stint?
#Empathy, compassion, listening with patience, the willingness to express gratitude and accept mistakes are some of the soft skills that #leaders need to lead happy teams.

Are you a BAD Manager? What makes a #manager good or bad? You need to realize that the correct answer is not a definite point on a scale. Like most quality measurements, the answer would have a range linkedin.com/pulse/you-bad-…
#leadership
Like how sweet is a cup of tea? Or like salt to taste. Being a "Good" or "Bad" #manager has a range. Also, there is no one size fits to all approach to #management and #leadership
It helps that we have a range to play. Makes conformance easier and realistic. You have a real chance to be “Good” and an equal probability to be “Bad”. The choice is always ours.

2021 has been one crazy year for me.

Recently took a break from twitter as I needed to think & reflect in solitude.

My biggest learnings / relearnings of 2021 - A thread as random as my thoughts. :))

#Life is fragile.

We never know when it shall be our last breath. Covid just reinforced this.

Do good. Be good. Expect nothing.
Make mistakes but have no regrets.
Forgive . Make peace often .
Live life each day to the best of your abilities.

That's all that can be done!

#InvestResponsibly

Always ensure you have a nominee to all your investments. Don't take on unnecessary loans.

Make a WILL !

Inform your spouse / family.
Document everything correctly &
responsibly.

Else, this becomes an added pain later on for the bereaved family !

Anybody who says “the #data don’t lie” either is ignorant or manipulative or both. The data are merely a tool that must be used responsibly & ethically to try to approximate “the truth” …some of which is unmeasurable (yet?). There are MANY #datascience methods & varying results
Everybody gets super excited about this new #AI #ML #machinelearning technique or that

You cannot build a RELIABLE house with low #quality bricks

First, look at the building blocks… meaning, how the #data fields are even defined & how the data are obtained

Who defined them?
I can’t tell you how glad I am that I have done coursework at both @MITSloan AND @StanfordGSB - Former immerses you in a ton of hands on analysis & options for analytic techniques useful in a #datascience job. Latter steps back to frame questions, assess missing data, biases.

#Thread Fighting systems of oppression: Why #empathy must inform our actions and politics:
Systems of oppression are founded on an “us vs them” narrative. These systems thrive by subjugating those who deviate from a group's bigoted norms deemed as the "other"; seeking to dehumanise and strip "other" individuals and communities of their sense of being and livelihood.
Empathy does the opposite—it works to validate all forms of existence. Author Isabel Wilkerson in her book 'Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents' asks us to nurture 'radical empathy' to challenge structural oppression.

Your patient has acute SARS-CoV-2 infection.

They are unvaccinated.

What’s the best way to talk to them about their vaccination status?

1/
In most patients with intact immune systems, vaccinations against SARS-CoV-2 work to reduce incidence and severity of COVID-19.

However, to date, approximately 40% of eligible Americans are unvaccinated.

This month marks a decade since I completed medical #internship. I thought then that I had achieved my goal, that I would find joy in my work. Little did I know where life would lead me. My #reminisces & #reflections - too long for a tweet & too short for a blog - hence, a 🧵
As the first & only #medical student in the extended family, I was in #unfamiliar waters. Moving to uncle's house in another city was a not-too-comfortable but not-wholly-unpleasant change. I'm privileged to be part of a family who did all they could to keep me happy
The pedagogy was #authoritative & #oppressive; seemed to be designed to #humiliate, not teach. I couldn't learn by rote, didn't know of any better ways (pre- ubiquitous smartphone era) Expected to address #seniors using honorifics, I felt they were as unapproachable as teachers

Dr Sahadev made it big in business.
He decided to spend good amount of money to buy a good piece of land London and built a 3 storey villa
He had an impressive swimming pool in the garden with a 100-year-old Lychee tree in the backyard. In fact, he bought the property precisely because of this tree. His wife loved eating lychees.
During renovations, his friends urged him to get guidance from a fengshui master

Dr Sahadev never quite believed in Fengshui yet surprisingly he took the advice to heart and went out of his way to engage a fengshui master from Hong Kong.

3 Insanely Simple Reasons why this #SnapchatAd 👻 is CRUSHING‼️

THREAD (1/8)
#1 The ad is made to look Snapchat #Native. Many Snapchat ads are simply recycled TikTok or Instagram Ads, and while that can be successful, you can take your content to the next level by building #PaidContent that looks indistinguishable from #OrganicContent.

(2/8)
What makes it perfect for Snapchat? First, it is a selfie, makes up most of the content that organically circulates on the platform. Second, it uses a Snapchat native Caption Style. The translucent gray bar with Helvetica font has become irrevocably tied to Snapchat.

🏳️‍🌈 Ruth Coker Burks 🏳️‍🌈
“In 1984, when Burks was 25 & a young mother living in Arkansas, she would often visit a hospital to care for a friend who had cancer. During one visit, she noticed the nurses would draw straws, afraid to go into one room, its door sealed by a big red bag.
She asked why and the nurses told her the patient had Gay-Related Immune Deficiency (GRID), later known as AIDS. On a repeat visit, and seeing the big red bag on the door, Burks decided to disregard the warnings and sneaked into the room.
In the bed was a skeletal young man, who told her he wanted to see his mother before he died. She left the room and told the nurses, who said, "Honey, his mother’s not coming. He’s been here 6 weeks. Nobody’s coming”. Burks called his mother anyway, who refused to come visit her

#HumpDayHumanism

I'd just gone hard on some #motivationalinterviewing about smoking cessation with a Grady elder one day. We talked about his grandbabies and his life. We even talked about his "nature."

He was looking deep into my eyes--like it was really resonating.

Yup.
2/
Me: "Well?"
Him: "Well what?"
Me: "What're your thoughts?"
Him: "My thoughts 'bout what?"

I groaned. He was tickled.

Me: "Sir! About quitting smoking?"

He raised one eyebrow at me and laughed again. This raspy, gravelly chuckle.

Him: "Miss Manning?"
3/
Me: *listening*
Him: "Tell me. Have you ever had somebody piss you off on a hourly job real, real bad--then step outside, flick your lighter, and then take a good, hard drag on a menthol cigarette?"

I shook my head no. Because I had not.
