in #TheBigTeal i wrote how libs+newscorp work together to publish 🐴💩.

libs electioneering strategy in play today:
- libs complain to an authority
- leaked to newscorp
- newscorp gives us ~4 hours to respond

next?
- article written selectively quoting us
- complaint dismissed
…and here it is.

confected, false accusations by @LiberalAus, and the @australian doing their dirty work.

theaustralian.com.au/nation/victori…
.@LiberalAus has complained to @electionsvic claiming that community independents are a single entity established to get around state election laws.

libs either know this is wrong, or have learnt nothing in the 9 years since cathy mcgowan beat sophie mirabella in indi.
we saw this vexatious behaviour by @LiberalAus at the federal election, aided and abetted by @australian journalists.

here's our full statement. the oz chose *not* to print the bold bits.
update: the @australian has updated the online version with the full statement by @ByronFay1:
update #2: the @GuardianAus has covered the real story — @LiberalAus+@australian wasting everyone's time.

true story:

during the election campaign, a journalist gained my confidence then wrote a blatantly false article about me.

i called him up and asked him why.

the best he could offer was that his editors "think you're decapitating democracy".

still stunned by that response.
the paper totally missed that the community independents movement was grassroots democracy on a scale no experienced in our lifetimes.

they deliberately misrepresented my role.

…and ran a concerted (yet unsuccessful) campaign — confusing news & opinion — to elect one party.
meanwhile, the paper ran tens of $millions of advertising — often lies — for clive palmer, no scruples.

'decapitating democracy'.

as the gas industry banks massive war-profits and destroys australian manufacturing in the process, @APPEALtd's new deer-in-the-headlights CEO @SamMcCulloch1 gaslights the nation.

let's have a look at her lies in this train-wreck of an interview👇 🚂💥
mcculloch wants us to believe that gas used in the power sector is significant.

truth: power generation isn't even in the top 3 uses for gas — only 6.6% of our gas is used for electricity.

exporters take more than 80% of our gas.

mcculloch claims that use of gas for power generation is increasing.

truth: false. gas use is trending downward.

exactly 1 year since #KooyongIndependents launched their search for the perfect candidate… and found what they were looking for in @Mon4Kooyong.

how it started: how it's going:
the day that advertisement ran in @theage and the @FinancialReview, frydenberg acolyte #TimSmithMP got pickled early in the evening, drove his jaguar into a house (still not fixed!) and blew 0.131 BAC.

coincidence?

ha! apologies to @AnnCapling — she sent me that great photo of @Mon4Kooyong and… great minds think alike!

.@JEChalmers missing the opportunity to say “it’s not my job to predict the end of the invasion of ukraine, but it is my job to mitigate the impact of putin’s actions on the australian people, and that’s why we’re…” #insiders
gas overwhelmingly sets the electricity price. the invasion of ukraine has upended global gas markets, setting int’l gas prices soaring.

unlike WA, the east coast gas price (and therefore largely the electricity price) is determined by int’l gas prices. @SydneyDogWalker

🤓 today i visited the site of australia’s first nuclear power station* — the jervis bay nuclear power plant.

*project cancelled in 1971, in the very early stages of construction

(ironically the lights are solar powered.) Image
geotechnical works were undertaken and an area was cleared just behind the stunning murray’s beach to build the 600MW(e) UK-designer “steam generating heavy water reactor”.

it was proposed in 1969 & supported by PM gorton, but when PM mcmahon succeeded he deferred the project. ImageImage
treasury determined that it would have been more expensive than coal, and after gas was discovered in bass strait, the project cancelled.

the remains of the project host one of australia’s biggest beach car parks and a lovely swamp. #GeekTourism ImageImageImage

if you’re commenting on the european energy crisis, make sure you understand this: increased coal & gas generation mainly due to drought & nuclear outages.

(nb. this is the electricity sector, not the entire energy sector.)
i got a lot of hate on 👆 from the usual nuke bros.

yes, of course some of the deficit is due to germany prematurely (and unwisely) shutting down their nukes, but *most* of the nuke deficit this year is from france:

data: ember
this is the *worst* year for nuclear in europe for a long time:
