🧵Today is the last day of #COP27 — where world leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to tackle the climate crisis.

Tomorrow, @s_guilbeault will return home — and @leadnowca is ready to hold him to account on the promises he makes.

For the last few months, the @liberal_party has been drafting a policy to cap emissions from oil & gas.

If done right, it could help Canada meet its climate targets and set a new standard for climate leadership. But Big Oil is working hard to water the policy down. (2/8)

The @leadnowca community won’t let our future be decided by the interests of polluters.

That’s why, since the beginning of November, volunteers have been meeting with their Liberal MPs to call for an #EmissionsCap that honours Canada’s climate commitments. (3/8)

So far, we’ve met with 6 Liberal MPs — @jimcarr_wpg, @AndyFillmoreHFX, @viraniarif, @PattyHajdu, @drbrendanhanley, @CornwallHeath — with many more to come.

We’ve had one simple ask to make of them: to raise the need for a strong Emissions Cap with cabinet and in caucus. (4/8)

They also said they didn't have a mandate to up their climate ambition, but Canadians want MORE climate ambition — not less 🧐 (5/8)

Unfortunately, two Liberal MPs — @rubysahotalib and @PamDamoff — have so far refused to meet with their constituents about the #EmissionsCap. If you change your mind, let us know — your constituents are keen to discuss with you. (6/8)

Our federal leaders have a duty to wind down fossil fuels at the scale that science and justice demand — and we’ll keep holding their feet to the fire until they can’t deny that Canadians have given them a mandate to up their climate ambition. (7/8)
