In monumental achievement for climate justice & G77 led by 🇵🇰. #COP27 has successfully concluded with loss & damage as part of the agenda. including a fund & financial arrangements to address this issue. I congratulate FM Shoukry, President @COP27P hosting a historic COP 1/5
Having experienced first hand the scale and devastation of Pakistan floods we travelled to the #UNGA to advocate for climate justice. when I chaired Group of 77 at the UN Pakistans proposal was unanimously adopted to demand loss and damage be part of COP77 agenda. 2/5
In 🇪🇬 we were happy to report that Pakistans proposal as chair G77 to include language on loss and damage on the agenda had achieved consensus. Upon conclusion of negotiations we’ve sustained that consensus & also included necessary language on fund & financial arrangement. 3/5
Spoke to @ClimateEnvoy Kerry both in 🇪🇬 & over the phone once negotiations went into overtime. appreciated leadership on climate, requested support for G77+ demand on inclusion of financial arrangement to tackle loss & damage. grateful we were able to reach a compromise. 4/5
sincerest gratitude to all members of G-77 & China for their continued support & trust in 🇵🇰s leadership. A special shout out to Team Pakistan at #COP27. Team MOFA & Climate led by @sherryrehman under able PMship of @CMShehbaz has delivered major win on world stage 5/5

Probably most consequential event as FM has been #COP27 in Egypt. Shaken by #PakistanFloods, worst natural disaster 🇵🇰 has ever seen, for us climate change is not a problem of the future. CoP-27 endorsed 🇵🇰 proposal as Chair of G77 & China, to place “loss & damage” on the agenda!
This proposal aims at creation of a financing mechanism to address climate disasters in developing countries. Pakistan & other developing countries have asserted we should be able to access resources to recover from climate disasters through a “loss & damage” financing facility.
Once again we are grateful to the UN Secratery General @antonioguterres for his consistent support and solidarity. Not only did we call upon him, he also visited Pakistans pavilion & spoke passionately along with PM @CMShehbaz about floods and challenges we face. 2/
“Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has categorically said that Sindh was not ending the lockdown on Monday and “we are entering the second phase of lockdown with some extra restrictions, particularly at hotspots.” he said 1/8
In a statement issued from the CM House, the chief minister said that some media channels were giving the impression that the lockdown was ending on Monday, which was totally wrong. CM said “we are entering phase-II under which stricter controls at hotspots were being initiated.”
However, minor exemptions will be given to some sectors such as construction phase-2, and isolated shops in neighbourhoods would be allowed to operate under SOPs issued by the government.
He categorically added that air, train and public transport would continue to remain closed
