In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read.
But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, & that is in the discovery & defense of the new.
The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations, the new needs friends.

I do understand some in our community don’t want us doing single-topic episodes (or this one), but we are going to take chances with the format of the pod
Sometimes we will take on topics we find important but you may not… which is what is great about podcasts IMO. 🙏🏽
I do hope folks listen to each other deeply on this issue & we find a way forward that respects a women’s right to choose & that represents what the majority wants*
[ * ~19% of our country wants to ban abortion, the majority of folks are pro-choice with some limitations ~80% ]
✅ Early-stage startups still raising money
✅ Angels, Seed Funds, & Syndicates still active
However…
🚩 Deals are taking 2-3x longer to close
👍 People who traded momentum & “social proof” for due diligence have started doing diligence again
This is healthy and good for everyone. So, who is clearing market and who I struggling?
Who is quickly funded?
🚀 You are 2-3x+ revenue year over year
🖊 You have a realistic growth plan & are executing against it well
🔥 Your burn rate is reasonable
🛩 Your runway post funding is 18+ months with eyes on break even/default alive
1. @jaketapper's book club was a serviceable "magazine" style show. Way overproduced & would be much better if it was less edited & glossy.
A raw, longer-form podcast would have been a much better experience... I really like JT.
2. the live interface is clunky but not terrible (ok for 1.0).
You can ask questions in a more structured way than in a YouTube chat, but that's a mistake. You actually want a vibrant, fast-moving chat NOT a slow Q&A approval process.
3. the @profgalloway show is (again) your standard "magazine-style" show, which is to say way overproduced & lacking depth
1/Tarantino DAO: raising $100m in order to inspire QT to develop 10 more projects (he said he would only do 10 movies)
These 10 can be produced, written, directed or otherwise approved by him
500k fans donate $200 each, everyone gets a profanity-laden NFT
2/Star Wars Sequels redo DAO: $1b raised by 10m fans to buy the rights to make a fan, Lucas, and @HamillHimself approved version of the Star Wars sequels
All members get their childhoods back.
3/Knicks DAO: $5b raised by 1m long-suffering Knicks fans to buy the team and vote on draft picks… so they can boo themselves when they are out of the league or playing for the @dallasmavs six years later
